Advantages: Not far to go
Disadvantages: Too big takes ages to look round
This is a great department store that I bought my stereo from with some vouchers from my dad. The stereo was bought nearly 4 years ago and is still working perfectly! John Lewis has the best quality of products and a good range of nearly everything!
Departments include womenswear - A few different names and clothes are sectioned into their label so its easy to find the style you like. Very difficult to find changing rooms though in the Southampton branch!
Childrenswear - Never been in as I dont have children, but if its anything like womenswear then its good.
Kitchen and home - I love all the funky crockery and gadgets for the kitchen, particularly the coffee makers that come in all shapes and sizes. Its quite expensive but the products like saucepans are good quality.
They also have things like washing machines, irons, ironing boards, dryers, dishwashers. Just about everything you might need at home.
Makeup, skin care and perfume - The people who work on these counters are very good at doing your makeup and can recommend products that suit your skin tone and type. They will do you a quick makeover for free and you can see how it wears before you buy anything. I just dont buy anything as its all very expensive like Chanel, Mac and other big makeup and perfume brands.
Menswear - Not too trendy, lots of suits and work style clothes. My dad doesnt like it and hes nearly 50!
Curtains/material/haberdashery - If you like choosing your own fabrics and bits and bobs, or just making things then this is the department for you. There are lots of things for sewing, including sewing machines, threads, and all the other gear you might need. They can also cut you lengths of fabric so you can get everything in one go.
The staff are very friendly, helpful and just that bit nicer than you might get in say NewLook. The Southampton branch is really massive, and its hard to find your way out when you first visit! They do have lifts and escalators though so its easy for everyone to get around.
Summary: I visit occasionally now
