Advantages: Excellent customer service

Disadvantages: Poor range on website, difficult to navigate

My local John Lewis (Newcastle) has the following departments:
* Womenswear-
The women's wear has a number of concessions however not as wide a quantity as some other department stores such as House of Fraser or Debenhams

* Womens Accessories
Including jewellery, shoes, handbags, lingerie, swimwear and nightwear

* Menswear
A number of concessions can be found in the menswear section. My boyfriend is 26 and probably wouldn't shop here as generally the menswear in the Newcastle store is more suited to an older man.

* Mens Accessories
Including shoes, ties, jewellery, underwear, swimwear and nightwear.


* Childrenswear
I don't have any children but my mum used to purchase my clothes from here. There is a wide range, in addition to branded and some designer childrenswear. John Lewis Newcastle also stocks uniforms for some of Newcastle's private schools.

* Childrens Accessories

* Sports Equipment
Including sports clothing and gym equipment

* Haberdashry

* Homeware
The homeware section includes furniture, lighting, kitchenware and crockery

* Toys

* Electrical Appliances
Including white goods and small appliances. John Lewis offer to price match with white goods so it is worth shopping around and heading to John Lewis so they match the price other stores are charging. John Lewis also offer their own guarantee in addition to the manufacturers guarantee. With buying large value items from John Lewis you can be assured of an excellent standard of customer care .

The customer service in John Lewis is excellent. In fact I know a large amount of people who have commented just how good it is. Staff are extremely helpful and are extremely knowledgeable about products. When purchasing high value items staff are very honest about products and you do not get the pushy sales people giving you that hard sell which happens in many electrical stores.

The general prices in John Lewis vary. Electrical goods are reasonably priced however perfume and beauty items are slightly more expensive.

My local John Lewis is not somewhere I would probably shop for clothes. The range of younger women's fashion is limited. There are a large amount of more classic styled clothes and dresses which are suitable for wearing for a wedding or the races but nothing that particularly stands out to me.

The John Lewis website could be improved as it is currently difficult to navigate through and the range of products on there is not as extensive as what is in the store.

In summary John Lewis is an excellent department store in terms of customer service. Personally I would definitely visit the shop if I was purchasing items for the home as there is a wide choice, of modern items for a reasonable price. For clothing I would not visit the store, as the styles are just not for me...... yet!!
