Advantages: Great range, good prices
Disadvantages: They stock for quality, not price
I have little time for department stores but I love the John Lewis partnership. It’s unique because it doesn’t have employees, it has ‘partners’ who share in the profits of the company and who therefore have a vested interest in serving the customer and getting repeat business. It’s a bit like a co-op and I like that in this day and age. But isn’t it expensive? A definitive answer – Yes and No. Yes, because they only sell quality goods and so they can be undercut by cheap imitations. If you want a branded item, check them out. If you want a Curry’s special, forget it. No, because they really do mean their price promise “never knowingly undersold”. Find an item they sell cheaper elsewhere – even on the internet – and they’ll match the price. I can vouch for this as I saved over £450 on a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezer that I bought last year by pointing out internet prices. No, because I got an extra years guarantee at no extra cost ….. TVs get four years guarantee! No, because they deliver free of charge. As a kicker, this year I bought a tumble drier from them. It was a WHICH? Best buy. They quoted me a price £30 cheaper than the cheapest internet price that I could find…. but it was out of stock!! So, I asked whether I could order it and pay for it in advance. No, said the assistant, they would take my name and contact details and phone me as soon as they got new stock. A week passed, then two, then three. Aha! I thought, they had a batch at special prices and now they can’t get any more!! So I phoned them. Very sorry, the goods were on order and they were chasing every day, but …. This did not feel good. Then, a week later, I got a call. The drier is in stock, please give your card details and arrange delivery…………… and the price? As quoted a month earlier and st
ill £30 cheaper and with a year’s extra guarantee!! So, now ask yourself – what does it cost to give them a try? The answer is that the bruises can be painful where you kick yourself for not doing it before!!

Great opinion.
