Advantages: Get it online!

Disadvantages: Hate the stores

I have to admit to never really being a fan of La Senza - there is one on every high street but I always preferred M&S underwear, I found it poor quality, overpriced, bad service and a bit childish in most of the designs - either that or very 'glamour' with nothing in between.

The store in Newcastle where I lived always had the most awful miserable sales people, I remember taking something back once and getting an actual sneer, so I never returned and never really felt I would need to.

So recently I was surprised when my friend recommended the new range of glamourous shapewear that La Senza have started to stock. Often the 'magic knicker' as it has come to be known is more of a functional purchase than something that makes you feel good - what amounts to beige cycling shorts pulled up to your chest underneath your most sparkly frock isn't always the beat way to boost your confidence. Plus I am 28 not 50! You would think after Bridget Jones' embarrassing big pants incidents that retailers would reconsider there offers in this area - well now they have.

I looked online and was pleased with what I saw - two colours, black and red lace or black and gold lace each with pull you in pants, Bras, control dress, control body or waist cincher. They're very 1950's burlesque in style, not too slutty but nice enough to make you feel fabulous.

I called into the store to look for the items but they only had the body suit in stock (far too nineties for me!) so I went back online to order. Imagine my surprise when after expecting the total to be about £60 the items had been reduced and they were actually £30 all together! I ordered the bra, pants and waist cincher and they arrived today -beautifully packed in a La Senza gift box, with tissue and scented beads inside a strong cardboard box. They also included 4 10% off vouchers for use before Christmas.

Another thing I liked was that they send you the tracking number for your parcel, so you can log into Royal Mail and see where it is.

My only disappointment was that I would have loved to have purchased the control dress - I like the idea of a smooth line under my Christmas party dress, but the sizes were really odd - you selected based on your bra size, which i think is akin to men having to buy a shirt based on their neck size - I am a D cup chest but not a D cup body! -and for shapewear you want it to fit, so I didn't purchase. If the items had been in stock in the store I may have tried them on and ended up buying it -but the poor range didn't allow this.

All in all though I'm really pleased with my purchases and although I'm still not keen on the stores I would definitely shop from the online site again. If I was La Senza I'd be pushing this range in the stores with the full lot able to be tried on and seen by shoppers -reasonable prices, lovely designs and a nice choice would encourage people to buy from the store.

Summary: Good product, lovely idea but don't go in -go online!

Sorry for the rating but your purchase was only through the online store and this is supposed to be about the offline store, as in the physical shop you can walk into... If a consumer wanted to know what sort of things La Senza sold you've not said enough for my personal liking. Do they accommodate all sizes or just average sizes? Do they stock maternity ranges, plus sizes, etc?
