Advantages: Cheap prices

Disadvantages: Cheap quality (sometimes)

When Lidl's first came to out town, my husband and I were very snobish about it, "we prefer brand named and better quatlity own brand goods" we thought. Then I decided to take a look, and we were hooked. At 15p for 2 litres of coke and lemonade, you just can't beat it. I buy little cartons of pure fruit juice for £1.15 for five and keep them in my car for when my kids want a drink and we are out, it saves a fortune. The bread is first class, the eggs are cheap, in fact most of the basics are cheap. Their coleslaw is one of the best around. They also have some very acceptable wines. I have even bought some stationery for work because it can be cheaper than the stationery catalogues!

There are only a few things we don't like. The instant mash tasted awful, and I bought some chicken drumsticks and they tasted like rubber. The fruit and veg can be ok, but make sure that you eat it quickly, I had a melon that turned to sour juice inside in two days without me even opening it! My kids like tinned meatballs, but when they had the meatballs from Lidl's, I couldn't get the colour of the meatball sauce out of their clothes.

They tend to have special sweet things for easter and christmas, and these are great value.

It is not always their own brand, they have heinz baked beans, weetabix, and After Eights at a lot cheaper than other stores.

They do Jaffa Cakes, and my whole family prefers them to McVites. The jelly bit goes all the way to the end, not just in the middle. This shop is great for parties, both kids and adults.

I don't do my whole shop here

There is a Lidl near me but I'm too posh and go to Kwiksave instead! It's odd stuff sometimes like Bulgarian pilchards and the like-the Delboy school of retail.I'll maybe give it another look after reading your glowing report, but will give the glowing meatballs a miss!
