Advantages: None

Disadvantages: sells unknown brands at not particuarly good prices

Times are tough at the minute financially, for everyone. I've had a lidl in my town for years now, but I've only recently used it.
I say I used it, what actually happened is that I went in armed with my weekly food money and left empty handed.

I was to understand that Lidl was cheap, that you could get some brilliant bargains, so when I left I was pretty confused to be fair, as to what it was everyone was going on about.

The shop was busy, and the aisles were narrow. It seemed small and cramped and had a low ceiling, which I really dislike in supermarkets (The high ceiling and lots of space is the main reason I usually shop in ASDA) The stock wasn't really on shelves like in usual supermarkets, but seemed to be more stacked on the floor, will a few shelves above it.

I didn't notice any significant differences in the prices between Lidl and my usual supermarket, in fact I thought many things were slightly more expensive and I didn't recognise hardly any of the brands they were selling.

The shopfloor was a mess, cluttered and there didn't seem to be any real order to anything. I was pretty dissapointed on the whole and left completely empty-handed. There was nothing there atall that I wanted that I couldn't have got elsewhere for the same price, if not cheaper, and of a known brand.

I've been in once, and I won't bother going in again. The mainstream supermarkets are perfectly well-priced in comparison to Lidl, and far more pleasurable to shop in!

I'm giving it two stars, one because I can't comment on the service. The staff may be very nice and and the service may be great but as I didn't buy anything I will never know, and one star because it's a shop and it does succeed in doing what a shop does and providing items to buy.

Summary: Stick to your usual supermarket.

They sell mainly german goods which is why your probably didn't recognise a lot, i have one down the end of my road and get a few bits from it but they have raised prices recently, cashing in on the credit crunch!
