Advantages: Low prices

Disadvantages: Some products can feel too cheap

Lidl is the German owned supermarket chain that operate in the lower end of the supermarket chain. The supermarket operates in the no frills section of the market, meaning that it mainly sells cheaper products than rival supermarkets such as ASDA and Tesco. What Lidl do is, not sell brand foods but cheaper alternatives.

This is both good and bad, as it makes the food that is sold cheap, but with some products this means that sometimes quality is sacrified. As what a person will find if they shop in Lidls is that, most of the canned and cartoned products such as juices are of German origin.

A good point with Lidl is the low price of the fresh food products, such as fruit and veg, as the products are just as good as any other shop, but is a lot cheaper.

The one problem that I have with the shop, is that they do not provide customers with carrier bags at the till, either a person brings their own or you have to pay for them. Although saying this most of the bigger supermarkets are now starting to do this, so this can not be aimed squarely at Lidl. Another is that when you walk into a Lidl store the store has the feel of being a budget shop, rather than the bigger market shops like ASDA.

I would recommend Lidl to people as during the recession, people should start to economise, and this could be a start, as what I have found by starting to shop at Lidls is that the cost of food shopping has dropped. Although while I would recommend shopping at Lidls, I would not recommned doing a whole food shop at Lidls as there are some items that I would not personally drop a brand. Also there are items that I have tried that I did not like and returned to the original brand. For this reason I would suggest trying Lidl, as it may not be to everybodies tastes.

Summary: Would suggest trying - not suited for a whole food shop

The carrier bags situation drives me nuts! I totally agree. It's getting more expensive in this shop as well x
