Advantages: Cheap, good quality specials good food.
Disadvantages: Bread is not as good as other supermarkets. Range may be slightly more limited than some
Any shop that sells all the food stuffs that I need and then offers more stuff on top, all at a fraction of the price of all other supermarkets is a good shop in my opinion.
Sure, the presentation may not be as pristine as other high street super markets but as long as nothing is damaged and things are organised well enough to find them, I can't see what the problem is.
Along with the food that they sell, Lidl also offer a range of specials each week that change regularly. These usually have a theme, for instance as I'm writing this they are selling car related products. These products are generally of high quality and work as well as the more famous brands but cost only a fraction of the price. This week, for example a 2 tonne car jack costs £15 compared to £30 for a similar item from Halfords.
One thing that strikes you as soon as you walk into your second Lidl shop is the fact that every store is laid out in almost exactly the same way. This means that even in a shop you've never been to you can easily find what you are after.
Lidl shops are rarely in town centres (in this country anyway) and because of this they can provide ample parking right next to the shop.
The only downside I have found as yet of Lidl is the bread. While they do sell perfectly acceptable pre-sliced white and brown bread, they do not have the bakery facilities of some super markets and as such cannot offer fresh bread.
Other than this I can't fault them.
Summary: A good shop that offers what you need for less.
