Disadvantages: 'Check Out and Throw Out' procedure
New Malden Lidl Store Review. Prices aren't too bad, but expect a near zero rating for customer service at the check out. This is the store's biggest problem and is standard procedure for all staff. Lidl is legendary for its poor customer service at the till, known as 'Check Out and Throw Out.' Anyone who is buying more than a few items will end up in trouble for many reasons. Firstly, the bags are not free, which you can forgive in some ways, but not so when you look at all the packing problems that arise as follows... Even if you have bags, there is very little space to put your items after they are scanned, which creates more time in trying to get them into your bags. Thirdly, staff don't help customers one bit to pack their products at the till, so you are on your own. Not good for any customer, and I would certainly tell elderly people to stay away from Lidl, as it can be intimidating for them. If this wasn't enough, before you have even started to pack any of your items, the next customers items are scanned, which makes it worse, as there is very little space at the till for packing. You are made to feel like, we have taken your money, now get out of the store. This 'Check Out and Throw Out' procedure puts Lidl at the bottom of the pile when it comes to customer service. This isn't just my epxerience, but the experience of the many customers I have talked to who go there. Also, look at other customer reviews on websites and it tells you this is being carried out on a nationwide basis. Avoid shopping there if you are going to have more than just a small number of items in your basket. You can get products at the same price or lower at any pound shop whom have a much better customer service. If you are looking for quality and a great selection, then just head for any Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury's etc
Summary: Not a nice experience

Very true and I have to say that I think you're completely right about elderly people feeling intimidated, I would be tempted to have strong words if someone started processing the next customer's sale before I'd even left. Thanks for the review, very well said!
