As a man who has only visited Germany once I could not begin to comment on the Germans taste or shopping habits but if Lidl the German based supermarket is anything to go by then it can't be that good. There are bargains to be had in Lidl I am not going to dispute that and some of the German products they sell can in fact compete with the big ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A Lidl Bit Helps (404 words)

Up until fairly recently I wouldn't have been seen dead in a branch of Lidl - it seemed the sort of shop that was beneath me, but in hindsight, I was just being a terrible snob. Lidl is a German owned supermarket and having visited Germany several times, I am fully aware of the fact German people rate the quality of what they buy ...  Read the complete review

Lidl is a low cost supermarket that is becoming more popular. It is similar to Aldi in the fact that it is a no frills supermarket chain, very popular in the rest of Europe and becoming more popluar in the UK with the credit crunch upon us as consumers are looking for places to shop where they can reduce their weekly shopping bill. It ...  Read the complete review

As of 2 days ago, I take back everything bad I ever said about Lidl. It used to freak me out because I didn't recognise half the brands (or even what the products in the jars were) and the place smelled funny. Oh and because you had to buy plastic bags. But seriously, Lidl have it all sussed out. Prices are LOW, and in times like these ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lidl : A student's paradise! (512 words)

I'm afraid I'm not educated enough about the ethical aspects of Lidl stores to have a valid opinion about them (regarding claims that they don't treat their staff well), so this review is going to concentrate on the shopping experience I have at a Lidl store. I have recently started shopping in Lidl because aged 21 I have finally flown ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lidl: eastern prices in a western town (267 words)
by - written on 17/07/08 (Useful, 52 readings)

an 'eastern 'bloc' shop is the worst in a long line of insults i have heard in reference to the supermarket Lidls and I ask myself why?! As a student I have gone out of my way to shop at lidls which was never my local supermarket so that i could save some pennies for the pub! Lidls is cheap because the majority of its produce is ...  Read the complete review

Lidl are one of those cheap no frills stores that offer lots of continenatl versions of our own brands, you can pick up some bargains instore but you also have to be careful as sometimes some of the offers they do at the bigger supermarkets can be better value. They do a great selection of continental meats, salamis, chorizo etc at ...  Read the complete review

There are maybe at least three LIDL stores all around Belfast. They look a bit basic and European in their indoor designs and layout. In the Belfast one my mum and I shop at the layout is as follows. When you come in you have huge crates and boxes full of fruit juices and soft drinks about half the price and double the size of other ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review mouldy pizzas (156 words)
by - written on 14/06/08 (Useful, 197 readings)

Lidl small pizzas regularly go mouldy long before the sell-by date - the record has so far been four days before. Today I exchanged two greenish pizzas for new ones - these are already dry with a whitish powder, six days from sell-by! These are supposedly packaged in airproof clingfilm, so the mould spores must be present before packaging. It used ...  Read the complete review

I'm not really a big fan of Lidl. The first time I visited one of these stores was when I was in Wales. I was staying there for the week and wanting to save a little on my small budget. I decided to give Lidl a try after hearing how much cheaper their things were. The environment: ************** On entering, ...  Read the complete review

Lidl say "simplicity is the key to our success". This is what you can expect from Lidl, simple inexpensive products. Very similar to the Aldi chain of supermarkets, they are a chain of stores throughout Europe. Lidl offer mainly foreign produce, due to the fact that they started out as a exclusively German company in the ...  Read the complete review

Having finally finished putting together a cold frame from Lidl (it only took three months for the weather to be decent enough!) I figured I should give the store a quick review. Lidl is known for being tremendously cheap. This is partly with nonbranded stuff and fruit and veg, however, you can get some decent offers on branded stuff ...  Read the complete review

A tiny bit about the history of Lidl first. Lidl is the last name of the man who founded the store, Ludwig Lidl. The company was founded in the 1930's by a member of the Schwarz family. In 1973 Lidl opened their first discount store but then in 1977 the opened another 30. The right to use the Lidl name had to be bought and was bought ...  Read the complete review

Our lidls stores around the Highlands are ok. Clean for the most part and too me that makes a big difference to a shooping experience, the food is a little different as most of it is foreign. But it is quite good. I cannot say I was totally bowled over by the store but it does have its uses. For example :- The bottles of fizzy ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lidl: Foreign food etc (249 words)
by - written on 11/04/08 (Useful, 89 readings)

Lidl is a supermarket that prides itself on providing good value products. It's products are meant to be cheaper because they use foreign brands, rather than familiar British brands. I've been to a couple of different Lidl's and to be honest I've not been that impressed. I'll confess that I didn't go into Lidl armed with a list of ...  Read the complete review
