Advantages: Easy to get to
Disadvantages: A bit pricey
Barcelona’s L’illa shopping centre is in the centre of the city on the Av. Diagonal. You can notice it because it is built in a very modern style with lots of glass and metal. Inside it is like a large long 2 level corridor which is quite sterile looking ot be honest. I was not very busy when we went there on a Thursday afternoon and we only spent about an hour in there. It has over 130 fashion and accessories, I can tell you it is a woman’s paradise, over 4.000 m2 dedicated to sports and more than 3,000 m2 dedicated to music and literature. There are travel agencies, Restaurants, Cafes, tourist information points and a few craft shops. There are parking facilities and it was free when I went there but that could change. I am not sure on the number of car spaces but this is the most popular road in Barcelona and has bus stops out side, also the toruist bus stops on this section of the road. The best way to see the city is on foot or bus rather then driving. I spent a whole afternoon here, as there are what feels like a lifetime supply of shops. Don’t go here expecting go get traditional local items to take back home. It is full of fashionable shops, some international at around the same price, as you would find in the high quality fashion shops in the UK. They even had a Marks and Spencer’s there! There was a very large perfume shop on the second floor which was quite a lot cheap then the UK even though it looked like an expensive shop. On the ground flood about half way through the centre there was a really lovely coffee shop which served the bests coffee i have ever had, it came with these little dunking biscuits as well which made it even nicer :) It was a little expensive for a coffee i suppose but it was nice! I recommend going down to the basements lvel as there was a huge food market there. They are permanent shops made to look like a market. There were so many cheeses and meats around I bought loads to take
back to the hotel. The prices were reasonable as well which seemed good for this shopping centre. The toilets on the ground floor were very small and did not feel hygienic. It is in an expensive area of Barcelona (Ave. Diagonal) so the prices can be upped here so be warned.
