Advantages: 48 hour delivery, direct to your door
Disadvantages: Not as cheap as shopping around
I have a confession to make; I just love catalogs! I’m one of those people that really enjoy browsing through the pages and looking at all the wonderful new styles that will be around in the new season. The other reason I adore catalogs is because I have the most annoying husband that is almost impossible to buy for, it doesn’t matter what I choose I’m always wrong so at this time of year gift buying can be an absolute nightmare! Does this scenario ring a bell with any of you? Well if it does then a catalog can be a lifesaver. The catalog I use is Littlewoods, now I know that over the years they’ve been given a bad name and a lot of people here at Dooyoo have also had several problems with them but I must be lucky, they’ve always been excellent in the 3 years that I’ve been shopping with them. The book itself comes in with a hefty 1289 pages and must weigh around 8 lbs although I haven’t actually put it on the scales to check – I will if you want. There are several different sections in the book and the first is dedicated to women’s fashion, whether you’re young and trendy or over 30 and don’t want to look like ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ like me then they’re bound to have something to catch your eye. The prices are not always cheap but sometimes they have some really decent bargains. I recently purchased some really nice jeans for 25 pounds which isn’t too bad considering I have to buy special lengths ‘cos I’m not that short! The other parts of the catalog are also divided into specific sections and run in this order: Kidswear, Kids sports Menswear, Mens sports Sports equipment Interiors – everything for the home such as furniture and curtains and towels. Electrical Jewellery and Gifts Nursery, Toys and Cycles Information – includes sizing charts. The main reason for writing thi
s opinion was to let you know how I solved my Christmas gift dilemma concerning what to buy for my husband; I gave him the book and asked him to choose what he liked. I have to admit that his choice surprised me, you’ll never guess so I’ll tell you. After about an hours deliberation he handed me the book back open on the sports equipment page and informed me that he wanted a punch bag for Christmas! Yeah, I was stunned but if that’s what he wanted then that’s what I was going to buy for him. The bag was described as polyurethane with webbed straps and chrome D rings. It comes in two different weights that are 20kg or 30kg and the cost is 44.99 and 49.99 respectively. There is also a bracket that can be purchased separately for 14.99. Now before you tell me that I could probably have bought one in a sport store a lot cheaper, I know this but took into consideration the fact that I live in a tiny town that doesn’t have one and the darn thing is heavy which makes transporting it quite difficult. Littlewoods offer free delivery on virtually all their products (I haven’t found anything that requires a delivery charge yet) and usually deliver within 48 hours. The punch bag came directly from the manufacturer and had a delivery schedule of within 7 days – it arrived in 5 days, and I didn’t have to carry it anywhere. Brilliant! In case you’re interested I thought I ought to add a little more about Littlewoods in general so here goes. They supply two catalogs a year, an Autumn & Winter and a Spring & Summer; in addition to these they regularly send out brochures of items that are on sale or special offer. I receive a monthly statement listing every transaction made including purchases and payments. It also informs me of how much ‘commission’ I have. The going rate at the moment is 12.5% goods and 10% cash; this means that I can get the better rate if I use my co
mmission to buy more stuff! A great example of this is that I used my commission to completely redo the floor in my kitchen and dining room over the summer and didn’t have to shell out any extra cash. Anything that needs to be returned, no matter what the reason, is really easy aswell. All you do is phone them up and arrange when the driver will collect the package for you - no charge. There really isn’t a lot more that can be said about Littlewoods except that I have never had any problems with their service or any of their staff when phoning – they’ve always been extremely polite and very helpful. I would wholeheartedly recommend them on my experiences and will continue to use them. If you’ve never tried them then give them a whirl, you could be very pleased just like me! Now it’s back to the wishful thinking and dreaming of what I want to buy next, where’s the phone?
