Advantages: Convenience

Disadvantages: Price on most items is above those in larger supermarkets

I used to work at a Londis and so have some insight into the runnings of the store and the dynamics of the shop. The Londis chain is a small supermarket which prides itself on offering value for money and a point of convenience. However with the expansion of much larger supermarkets there is always an Asda or Tesco not far away and thus prices cannot be matched, however Londis seems to have a large customer base, mainly the eldery and people who may not have the means to shop anywhere but the local Londis, but the largest percentage of Londis customers are those individuals who just want a few things such as daily items like break, milk and the newspaper and smoking paraphernalia.

As for the structure of the shop, everything is clearly ordered into isles such as 'tinned food items', 'cereals, tea and coffee' and 'fruit and vegetables'. Items are stocked daily and refaced every night so the product labels are clearly visible. There are normally staff on the shop floor who are re-stocking and availble to offer customer assistance and then 3 to 4 people on the checkout depending on how busy it is. In the store i worked in, they very rarely let the cue get out of hand and so if four people were not enough to manage the peak hours they often had extra staff on to baggage the customers shopping therefore reducing the waiting time.

The prices are normally slight above what you would find in the larger supermarkets although there are a few store specials running at any given time which are markedly lower, so if you shop selectively you can in fact save money.

As for choice, well it has all the major brands but a fairly basics selection in comparison to larger supermarkets. But on the upside it does have a butchery and cooked meats counter and also a rotisserie which fresh chick cooking throughout the day

Opening hours are from 8am-10pm so whilst not being 24 hours like some supermarkets it is a little more flexible than your average corner shop.

Summary: Similar to any corner store but on a slightly larger scale.
