Advantages: interesting and nice looking stuff
Disadvantages: the price
I had a little peek into my local Lush shop today. It's been there for years but I didn't use to bother. I've always noticed it as there's a very strong and distinctive citrus scent coming from their shop that fills up their part of the high street. You definitely can't miss it! I'm just not into citrusy and tangy scents so I never really had the urge to go in and look at their stuff. On their ad board outside the shop, it read that they made handmade cosmetics so it all sounds quite nice... So after years of not bothering I finally made it in there today and here's how it went.
The first thing I noticed was the bright colours and the cacophony of what seemed like a million perfumes mixed together. Their items like bath bombs and bubble bars were displayed in large piles of the same stuff and it's kind of a self service thing where you take a paper bag and collect the products you want. You can then take them to the till once you've finished selecting your goods.
I was greeted by one of the sales ladies and she showed me around, demonstrated and got me to try the different products. Their bath bombs and bubble bars looked quite intriguing, the only thing that stopped me buying anything was the price. There were massive bath bombs at 7 or 8 pounds a pop, which I was completely shocked by. As if 2 to 4 pounds for a regular sized bar per bath wasn't pricey enough!
They also sell solid shampoos, conditioners, freshly made face masks, shower jellies, face products etc. Everything looked new and intriguing but I wasn't too sure about actually getting anything that day.
Whilst the products seemed nice, I didn't bother getting anything as they were too pricey for me at the moment and I'd like to read more reviews on them to see if they're actually worth it. I also found it difficult to smell the items properly as the different scents from all the products together was too overwhelming.
I might visit again sometime in the near future but need to save up or have it as a very special occasion treat as the products I liked weren't very good value for money. I'll be happy to receive a luxury bath product as a present any day but I'm not so sure if I want to buy them myself.
Summary: quite a different cosmetics shop

- 02/02/09 I've got Lush products on my valentines and Mothers Day wishlists but I wouldn't fork out for the items myself. Nice as a treat, but too much of an indulgence to buy for myself for the forseeable. |
