On the 15/12/05 I ordered a metal detector as a Christmas present. The order was confirmed by an Email from Maplins.It had not arrived by the 23/12/05 so I telehoned them and was told the order had been cancelled due to no stock.In eight days they had not bothered to contact me even though I had supplied email address etc.They said they had sent a letter that must have got lost in the post.This is the day of email what firm gets someone to type a letter put a 30p stamp on it and post it at christmas time. Sorry Maplins I don't buy that one. Everything else you have done by EmailThere attitude has been we made a few mistakes ie. confirmed orders that did not exist.Failed to inform me of this and also deducted £0.01 yes one penny from my credit card which at my insistance they have now refunded.I have retyped this for the people who said they had difficulty reading block capitals.Why did I buy on the web. Well it started with a visit to Maplins store at Brislington Bristol a couple of days before. They had five or six different display models but only two types in boxes I asked at the counter if that was all they had and was told yes I asked if any of the others would arrive before Christmas and was told I don't think so. no offer of I will check for you so I decided I was wasting time As I walked away he said no there wouldn't be any more.Not the best service I have received.I do not expect to get good ratings for this as it appears you have to say nice things about Maplins to obtain these but I would urge everyone to judge fairly the information that I have given. If it appears that people are voting in groups to try to blank out information then the whole forum loses it's credability.Remember the best way to judge a company is not what it does when things go right but the way it acts when things go wrong.

Summary: ALTHOUGH ON THE 23/12 I TOLD THEM IT WAS A XMAS PRESENT NO OFFER TO HELP IN ANY WAY

Could you put some spacing in your review as it makes it easier to read.

I know you are not happy with the service they provided but due to writing your review in the offline section you should add information about the shop you visited i.e. layout of store, where the staff helpful or was it understaffed and then explained because you item was out of stock you where driven to their website. And then explained about the lack of customer service. If you had done this you would have recieved higher ratings from everyone. (I have had problems with Maplins products in the past but not with their actual customer service.)

This is in the wrong category as it is for the shop and not the online store, also please do not write in capitals it makes it hard to read.
