Advantages: Every store has a food department, every thing you would need.
Disadvantages: Bit more expensive, so not for every day shopping.
I love Marks and Spencers foodhall - not for every day but for special or occassional treats. Let me tell you why ...
What is the Marks and Spencer Foodhall ?
Basically, the food and drink department in Marks and Spencers. (most stores have one).
What can you get there ?
Everything that you would need to eat or drink, for either every day consumption or for special occassions.
Are products easy to find ?
Oh yes, our local store - which I guess is fairly typical - is divided into sections.
You have...
Fresh fruit and vegetables ( plus salad items, including pre packed salad leaves, coleslaw etc).
These are very often on special offer.
Fresh meat and fish - both on their own and with sauces already added in the pack.
Puddings - they have the greatest range of puddings ( and they are all lovely and very tasty and reasonably priced).
Cheese - there is a large selectionm of cheeses available plus a 'try me for 99p ' range.
Biscuits and cakes - for all occassions, either every day or special.
Frozen foods - there is a whole selection of fast food, fish, meat, vegetables, and pudding dishes available in this section.
Ready meals - I think M&S probably have the biggest range of any of the supermarkets I know in this section, both in the low calories ' Count on us' range or the 'normal, everyday range'. All meals are very tasty and quite good portions too. Making them excellent value. There is also a range especially for children too - meatballs and pasta etc.
Bread - a very good selection of brown, white and wholemeal breads and rolls plus extra varieties of flavoured breads.
Pet food - this ios found in the foodhall department too, there is quite a good range.
House hold goods. These are found along side the foods. (all your shopping done at once ). (air freshener, bags, etc)
Tinned goods - such as meat, fish, soup, vegetables
Jars - pasta sauces, jams, marmalades etc
Tea/ coffee - including Fairtrade products
Snacks - crisps and nuts etc
Drink - wine (white, red and rose), spirits, squash and soft drinks.
Magazines and newspapers - all of the major newspapers and nearly twenty top magazines are available.
Special offers.
There are regular special offers available too which add to the value.
Credit card.
Every time you use an M&S credit card you earn point which are converted into money off vouchers which are sent to you several times a year.
Should I shop here ?
I would say yes for special occassions but not for everyday shopping.
Why so ?
To put it bluntly - it wouls cost alot more to do you weekly shop here than at a regular supermarket and so unless you have won to lottery recently it would be way over your normal budget.
Is it quality food ?
Oh yes, Marks and spencers always give value for money. Their products are usually a bit more expensive than a regular store, but you do always have quality at Marks and Spencers.
Favourite dishes ?
Every one will choose a different selection, but, for me these items are unbeatable.
1. Frozen chunky haddock loins (4 pieces for £5.99)
2. Frozen Haddock Cumberland Pie (1 serving for £1.99)
3. Chilled cottage pie ( prices vary as to the size)
4. Blueberry and oat cookies (£1.99 per pack)
5. Chunky steak in gravy (£2.49 per 450g tin - serves two)
6. Coffee and walnut cake
7. Carrot cake
8. Flavoured crackers
Summery
Great for 'treat shopping'. Excellent value if you don't mind paying a bit more initially. Food products are brilliant quality. Lots of special offers are available. Use their credit card for extra bonuses.
I give M&S 9 out of ten.
(Would be ten but I think it is not for every day shoppoing).
Summary: Excellent value and quality, great for special occassion shopping and treats.
