Advantages: Superb Quality
Disadvantages: a bit pricey
It's not just shopping, It's M&S shopping. Marks and Spencer shopping really is a cut above, but only if you're not on a tight budget.
The food in M&S is luscious. Get tasty pre-cooked chickens for about a fiver. Superb quality fruit and vegetables at prices well above what you'd pay elsewhere.
The individual ready meals vary from about £3 to about £5, but you can get a special offer meal deal that includes wine for a bout £10. The variety goes from Asian to American, Vegetarian to Meat Feast. In fact whatever you eat, has been lovingly prepared by Marks and Spencer's own fair hand ready for you to heat and put on the plate. Then take the credit (it's called using your initiative).
M&S do a really good range of weight loss meals. The Count On Us range include things like chips, rice and pasta dishes, vegetables and deserts. Yes deserts, in fact some of the best diet food I've ever tasted.
Marks and Spencer's clothing is well known as old fashioned and servicable, isn't it? Not any more, take a look at their Limited Edition and Per Una ranges, you can buy very good quality fashionable garments like skirts dresses and jeans at prices that are higher than other supermarkets, but about the same level as other clothes shops like Debenhams and Principles. If you want to spend £30 - £40 on a skirt or a pair of jeans, Per Una will work for you. If you want to spend a little more have a look at their Autograph range which is suitable for more mature but fashionable shopper. Only look at the Portfolio range if you are over 90 ( in body and mind).
Homeware at M&S is very good quality and you can get some very good offers in this department. I've had packs 2 good Microfibre pillows for £3.50. Bales of towels (2 bath 2 hand 2 flannels) for £7.50. So not everything is expensive in M&S. They sell furniture in their larger stores. It's worth looking at their website.
The stores are all very neat and clean but can sometimes be a little small. The staff in M&S are usually very profesional in their approach to the customer. You don't get the feeling that they are very happy in their jobs though. Perhaps they are being credit crunched too.
Summary: Superb quality if you are willing to pay for it
