Advantages: Great, affordable, great quility

Disadvantages: I fit into an 11 - 12 fancy dress costume, Home range to expensive

Matalan is a UK homeware and clothing store which opened in 1985.

I love Matalan I think specifically for their clothing range which is affordable but still excellent quality. Matalan has a full collection of womens, mens and childrens clothing as well as their homeware range and the recently opened M party.

Their clothing range are affordable and still great quality. When I say affordable their range varies from as cheap as £5 to a price of around £30. The reason I love Matalan is beacause they have a complete collection of clothing not just a few items of each thing such as lingerie, daytime, nightime, shoes, nightwear, maternity, plus size and a collection for older women. The mens and childrens ranges despite not being as big as the womens range still have a good affordable collection.

My favourite piece in my wardrobe are a pair of shoes I bought from Matalan for just £12. I have never bought a pair of heels that have being very comfortable to buy and as most women know it is hard to find a pair that are comfortble enough to wear all day. Some of the shoes from Matalan are fully high heels and for wearing on a night out. The ones I bought however are for the day and therefore how you feel on a night out is the not same as a day. I fully reccommend Matlans shoe collection as I believe they are one of the best places to buy shoes.

Matalan have a great home department including bedsheets, pictures, dinner sets. Collections from celebrity stylists including Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen and Linda Barker. Their home collection however I find to be expensive compared to their clothing range. For example the plates and dishes are purchased seperatly and therefore the price adds up. I don't know why the home department is more important as it is the same store and I think it would make me not choose to buy my homewear their which is a shame as they are so nice just most of the things are not worth the price they are charged at.

Malan recently opened M party which is a collection of things for having a party. M party have a range for both children and adults. Including collections for christmas, haloween, birthdays and hen and stag dos. They sell baloons, decorations, games and activities and fancy dress are just some of the things they sell. I bought a baloon here for my mums birthday and they charged £1 to have them blown up and I bought 2 they were about £6 each anyway and I thought this was a rip off. Anyway I would not have bought another from there until it came to my dads birthday and the place I usually buy from was closed. I went here and thought ill buy a cheaper one, I got to the checkout and they said they had stopped charging which I thought was excellent as it was something that would stop me shopping in M party. The only other dispute I really have is that I wanted a nice grown up fancy dress outfit for a friends party and therefore went to the adults section of the fancy dress costumes. I picked out a few dresses I liked in various different costumes all in small I tried them all on in the changing room and none of them fit. The women in the fitting room said I would fit into the childrens which stopped at the age of 12 anyway. Now of course children are not going to dress in the same outfits as adults as is well known and therefore I had to buy an indian outfit which I didnt really want. At 18 and yes a small person but not that small I don't think an 11-12 year olds dress should fit as then what do the 11-12 year olds fit into. However I can praise them for the price as all of the local fancy dress shops all wanted a minimum of £20 for the outfits the one I actually wanted was £30 and then an extra £20 which you would get back when you returned it. The adult section of fancy dress costumes at Matalan were from £20 to £30 and you could keep it forever and not just one night which I think is much more reasonable.

As long as I can remember my mother has being a member of the Matalan club. Previously I remember that you couldn't actually buy something in Matalan unless you had a card however this has since changed which I was glad about as you had to be 18 to have a card and in those days I was still under 18 and therefore could not buy anything. However the Matalan Cards do offer alot of advantages such as cardholder discounts and exclusive offers, vouchers by e-mail, mailer updates on new products and offers and a brochure through the door of the new ranges.

I think Matalan is an excellent store their clothing range anyway. I think their home range and M party are just to expensive. However their great choice and prices of their clothing range keeps me coming again and again.

Summary: Great clothing range just not sure about the rest

Being able to fit into kiddie clothes is not a disadvantage - you don't have to wear them, but if you ever need a costume it must be a bonus. Half my wardrobe is age 12...and I'm 26 :O

Our local store was turned into a clearance store a few years back - you can pick up a whole new wardrobe in there and still have change from £50!
