Advantages: Great prices, Lots of FREE parking, Ample shops

Disadvantages: None

Just before Christmas 2002 my wife and I went to Chester to stay for a long weekend. The highlight was a trip to the McArthur Glen Designer Shopping Outlet at Cheshire Oaks, which is situated just off junction 10 on the M53 at Ellesmere Port.

To get there you can travel by car to junction 10 on the M53. The outlet is situated one mile from the M53/M56 junction. This is the way we went. If you want to travel by train, then you go either to Ellesmere Port or Chester Railway Station. There is a huge free car park situated at the site. This car park is split into 3 areas (A, B, & C).

I think the car park has been well planned as all the shops are located around these parks, so that you don?t have too far to carry all your purchases.

One other great thing about this outlet is the opening hours. From Monday to Friday the shops are open from 10am to 8pm. Saturday the hours are 10am to 7pm. Sunday times are 11am to 5pm.

With McArthur Glen Outlets there is plenty of choice. In this outlet there are over 140 stores pricing all goods with up to 50% discount off retail prices. Unfortunately there are too many shops to name here, but here are a few. These shops cater for all walks of life and budgets.

Ben Sherman, DKNY, Elle, Littlewoods, M&S Outlet, Pilot, Warehouse, Suits You, Easy Jeans, Timberland, La Senza, Claire?s Accessories, Tie Rack, Tog24, Adidas, Donnay, Fila, Nike, Reebok, Sergio Tacchini, Bed & Bed Works, Ponden Mill, Remington, Bookends, Antler, Thorntons, XS Music & Video, Toyworld, Edinburgh Crystal, Wedgwood, and many many more.

Food outlets include: Garfunkel?s, McDonalds, Millies Cookies, Villa Pizza and many more. This is an advantage for you, who like to go eating out after shopping.

If you want any more information regarding the shops, you can either visit their web site at www.mcarthurglen.com or give the information telephone line a ring on 0151 3485600.

We found the late opening o
n Friday a great help, as we went there after a day?s outing to the centre of Chester. On Saturday we went again and actually found that prices were a lot cheaper than in the shops in Chester. If you cannot find what you are looking for, then you can always buy McArthur Glen gift vouchers. These come in £5.00GBP and £10.00GBP denominations, and can be used at all of their outlets, which are situated at Ashford, Bridgend, Swindon, Livingston, Mansfield, and York. Being from Leeds, we have visited York on numerous occasions.

After you have finished shopping or if you do not even want to shop you can go ten-pin bowling or go see a film at the Multi-screen cinema complex that is next to this outlet.

If you are in the area I do recommend a visit to this Outlet

I've not been to the one in Chester. As you mention we have one in Swindon. I haven't been for a while though!
