Advantages: Huge, great range
Disadvantages: Will be mega busy in lead up to xmas
I went to Meadowhall on wednesday. I havent been yet because if I want clothes, Im in Leeds, or I can go to the shopping centre in Morley.
Now my sister is at Sheffield Uni and I have an excuse to do more shopping.
Now one thing before I start on shopping. How cool is the tram to Meadowhall from town. I have only been on a tram once in Amsterdam and this tram was pretty fun. Especially since you can use your dayrider on the bus. You needent walk anywhere!
Anyway, Meadowhall is a massive shopping centre in Meadowhall which is like a suburb of Sheffield centre. It takes around 10mins on the tram, and you get taken right up to the interchange. You just have to walk over a big bridge and your in.
There are countless highstreet and labelled brands here. Theres Game, Republic, USC, Fred Perry, New Look, Primark, Debenhams. Etc. There are so many I didnt have time to go in them all. I will next time!
Theres something for everyones price range, and if your hungry there are loads of resturants/cafes/juice bars to refuel at.
We opted for Costa Coffee, which was as per usual very tasty and very expensive. Theres a food quarter where there is more choice, but we just wanted a quick lunch, and we found it in the back of Smiths with a lovely view of the massive carpark.
There is ample carpark space, or if your being enviromentally friendly you can take the tram, bus or train. The train from Leeds stops at Meadowhall on the way to Sheffield.
In a lot of the shops I went in I got good customer service, a nice student discount. However my boyfriend was very very bored, so maybe just leave the man at home and go with your sister like Im going to do it 2 weeks.
My favourite shop was Free Spirit, it was a much bigger branch than in Leeds, had a great ladieswear section, and some amazing pink trainers that my boyfriend is going to get me for xmas. They also do a student discount.
At the moment there is a santa there for all the kids, doing a story telling. This is quite nice for the parents who might want to give their child a treat in the middle of all the shopping.
One cool feature of this centre is that they have huge lockers at the front. You can leave all your shopping in them, and then go for a meal/cinema.
Theres also a cinema, nearly forgot. Its a Vue branch, so quite expensive unless you go with Orange Wednesdays. I didnt go there but it could make a full day/evening out. Alternatively you can send your boyfriend off to watch a film whilst you shop, but an hour and a half isnt long enough really.
Overall a great shopping experience and I cant wait to go again!
Summary: Im gonna spend loads of money
