Advantages: Good facilities and large number of shops
Disadvantages: Very busy at weekends and Christmas
Having now lived away from the Sheffield area for six years, there are rare things I miss about the place, but Meadowhall is one of the jems! Situated J34 off the M1 it is in an ideal location for visitors from around the region and further afield.
Parking facilities are plentiful, with an overflow for busier periods. At Christmas even the overflow gets full at times, so be warned you may need to fight for a space! Meadowhall can also be accessed via public transport including the tram, which is the most stress-free and convenient way to travel to the centre from Sheffield City or the numerous stops along the way.
Once inside, you are greeted by the backdrop of indoor water features, glass lifts and marble effect staircases. It has a bright, fresh look with a glass roof so on sunny days you don't feel completely holed up like with some shopping centres.
The choice of shops is excellent - all the major high street names have a spot here, and are easily located using the maps which are easy to spot. There are a number of smaller chain stores but few independent stores. If you are looking for the more querky shops you will find these in The Lanes; a small area located downstairs to the side of the food court where you will find alternative clothing, music and craft shops.
Aswell as the large choice of shops, there is a cinema, food hall, amusement arcades, creche and numerous bars and restaurants. The food hall has the cheaper chains downstairs with the likes of McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC taking pride of place. Upstairs you will find a selection of restaurants; again with chains such as Pizza Express but also italian, french and oriental food.
With such a choice of things to do, Meadowhall offers a great day out for all the family with clean modern surroundings.
Summary: Something for everyone - shops galore!
