MFI: Environmentally irresponsible liars (MFI)

We have a Barcelona bedstead from MFI and during the course of our last house move, the bag containing all of the screws broke open and some went missing.

I phoned MFI 'customer service' and was told that not only do they not provide replacement parts for bedsteads, that if I look in their T&Cs customers are advised not to disassemble their products. What kind of magic bed to they think we have that we can move house without taking it apart?

I then tried writing to MFI and was told that the Barcelona bed is fully discontinued. Well, if this is so, then why are they still selling it in-store and on their website? So, I wrote a very nice e-mail to them alerting them to this and asking for the name of the manufacturer so I can write to them directly. They simply replied with one sentence - 'We are unable to provide you with replacement parts for the Barcelona bedstead'.

So my only recourse is to get another bed - this is so environmentally irresponsible and MFI should be ashamed of themselves. In this day and age when we are told we need to be as green as possible and not to chuck things away because we don't like them, that's what MFI are telling us to do. We have just enough screws to hold the bed together, precariously, but I expect it to collapse any day. We cannot find matching screws at any DIY stores (there are different screws for the headboard and footboard) so we are really at the mercy of MFI and they have basically told us what they think of us with their total lack of help.

I didn't know about MFI's reputation when I moved to this country a few years ago, but I sure do know now and they have lost a customer forever for the sake of a couple of screws. Well done, MFI. You need to learn a lot from successful companies around the world who have exemplary customer service - it's not as expensive as you think.

Summary: Lost the screws for your bed? Don't fix it, chuck it! We can always move to Mars.
