Advantages: Great knitwear and styles always changing.
Disadvantages: Sizing is inconsistent.
Miss Selfridge stocks womens clothing aimed towards females aged 16-25. The style is a mix between vintage, boho with a girly/ pretty twist. The style of clothing is very similar to Topshop albeit slightly more girly and feminine.
Sizing
This is something that puzzles me with Miss Selfridge the sizing is so inconsistent, therefore you can't just pick up an item and assume it will fit like some shops. I recently tried on a pair of jeans in the same style however just a different colour and I was a size smaller in one pair than the other. Jeans are quite shapeless. If you have a more curvy bottom in comparison to your hips you will fit that the jean fit on your bottom but not on your hips/ waist so gape of the back.
Tops are the same although I find even worse as the clothes are made for people with no chest. I agree with a review I read previously that the tops do not take into account for people with a waist and a chest instead they are just very straight and do not emphasise curves.
I usually have to wear a size smaller in trousers from Miss Selfridge and a size larger than normal in the tops, which makes buying dresses from here an art and some styles are often just totally unsuitable.
Pricing
Prices are generally quite reasonable and I have never had a problem with the quality of the clothes. However of late I have noticed that the prices have started creeping up. Dresses are still quite reasonable for going out style dresses (£40) but casual dresses are rising to around £40 also. Jeans are more reasonable and are slightly cheaper than Topshop who sell similar styles, costing around £25-£35 depending on the design.
Stores
The stores are usually located next to a Topshop. What I have found that the Miss Selfridge stores that I have visited are quite small and at times can be cramped especially if they get busy. The rails often look quite unorganised which means if you are looking for something in particular than you will have to
Online
The online Miss Selfridges collection is great and stocks a wide range of items. In fact I feel the online store is better for getting new designs in and they often appear online before they do in a store. However with some popular items the website may run out quickly and they do not become available again. In these cases you may have to search in store as the stores often get another batch of a product in , when the website doesn't. In comparison to asos.com and janenorman.com I feel that ordering online from Miss Selfridge means deliveries take slightly longer , unless you opt for the next day delivery option.
Returns
I have found that usually stores from the Arcadia group are very easy to return to but Miss Selfridge the assistants may be more picky and try and "play on the item has been worn". It may just be my experience of a particular store but the Newcastle Eldon Square store is very fussy when it comes to returns. On two occasions I have had to argue my right to a refund despite not even wearing / trying an outfit on. (I bought them got them home and thought ergh what was I thinking!) yet I was accused of wearing the outfit.
Overall
I used to be a massive Miss Selfridge fan when I was younger there was a lot of choice in terms of dresses, tops, cardigans. I only really shop here now if I am looking for dresses and knitwear. Its not a bad shop and if you take a good look you will find something you like... however you will have to look for it rather than it jumping out at you.
Summary: Fast Fashion at reasonable prices- sizes are just a bit weird at times though
