I love to go shopping for new clothes and one of my favourite shops has to be Monsoon. Monsoon was founded in 1973 by Peter Simon after he had very successfully sold clothes with an ethnic origin on the Portobello road in London. To day there are over 800 Monsoon and Accessorize stores worldwide.

As the name implies many of the clothes Monsoon sells have an ethnic flavour. However I have noticed that this seems to be diminishing lately and although there are still lots of lovely ethnic prints there are also lots of plainer clothes on sale.

Monsoon not only sells women's clothing but also children's clothing and home wares including curtains, bedlinen and other decorative accessories for the home.

I not only love the clothes Monsoon sells but I enjoy the whole shopping experience. The clothes are always well laid out and there are always lots of sales advisers offering to find other sizes or colours for you. The fitting rooms are spacious and my local Monsoon doesn't seem to worry about how many items I take to try on. Even during busy sale periods this seems to be the case and makes a pleasant change to the policy in many other stores I visit.

The clothes are not cheap. The average price for a skirt is around £50 and a pair of jeans will set you back around £45. Monsoon sells a wonderful range of evening type dresses too. I like the fact that the range is changed on a fairly frequent basis so there is always something new to see.

Monsoon also sells lovely earrings and other accessories. These can be found both in Monson stores and Accessorize. Accessorize has a much bigger range as you would expect.

I love Monsoons children's range too. However there is a much better choice for girls than for boys. I also find the sizes of their children's clothes a bit on the small side especially their boy's jumpers.

My favourite time to visit Monsoon is during sale time. The Monsoon sale starts with reductions of around 50% but then reduces stock by 70%. This is a genuine sale and all the last seasons' stock is included in the sale. I have picked up some amazing bargains.

Monson are happy to let you return any unwanted items within a 28-day period. I recently had a problem with a pair of linen trousers. The seam had started to come undone and on looking closely I could see that not enough material had been caught in the seam. Monsoon were very happy to give me a full refund even though I had had the trousers for several months!

I highly recommend Monsoon especially if like me you like clothes that are a bit different.

Only visit during the sale......I got an amazing deal on a dress for a wedding at the end of the sale once and then sold it for a small fortune on ebay!
