Advantages: quality and detail
Disadvantages: price of somethings is overpriced even for the quality
Monsoon to me is a cut above a lot of other high street shops. The clothes are quite a bit more expensive but the quality is so much better than a lot of places that it is worth the money.
I often go in to have a look but only usually end up buying something for special occasions or if i see something I really love.
If you are looking for a dress in particular then Monsoon is really a great place to start as they have so many - lots of different styles, materials and patterns and all good quality material. Most of the dresses you buy are very well cut , they are lined if they need to be lined, the material feels substantial and likely to last not like the cheaper end of the high street.
The Monsoon sales are huge bargains. You have to get there early though, really on the first day or so if you intend to get something you have had your eye on or in anything that isn't a size 6 or 20. However I have been lucky in the past and picked up a great skirt about 2 years ago that was down from £55 to £20. I also recently bought a dress and a shrug for my friends wedding. I bought it just 3 weeks ago for full price - dress £95 and shrug £40. Probably the most money i've spent on an outfit ever!
Yesterday howevever I realised there was a sale on at Monsoon and that judging from the website my dress was in the sale now only 3 weeks after I bought it! My size wasn't available on the website so i legged it down to my local Monsoon where I bought it originally and was so lucky to find the last size 14 in the sale plus as an extra bonus the shrug was in the sale too - again in my size. £20 instead of £40. I am now off to Monsoo this morning again armed with my original reciept and dress to get the full price back on the original dress and shrug i bought - therefore saving myself nearly £70! Monsoon's return policy is 28 days if you have the reciept but after 28 days as long as they still stock it you can exchange it for something. Though of course if it is in the sale by then you would only get the sale amount.
Hopefully i'll have no problems returning my dress and shrug this morning as i have the receipt and it was only 3 weeks ago so we shall see whether i have saved £70 or not! If for any reason i can't return it then sale items can be returned up to 7 days after purchase with reciept.
Monsoon also have a small bridal section with wedding dresses and dresses suitable for bridesmaids (though a lot of these you could just wear for a very posh occasion as they don't look to weddingy). The wedding dresses are fairly simple but are only about £200 maybe £300 and the bridesmaid type dresses are usually around the £150 mark. Beautiful quality etc but at a reasonable price. Again these often end up in the sale so you could get a huge bargain as Monsoon sales are usually 50% off with some things 75% off.
Monsoon also sell shoes but i've never bought any from there and they also sell a small range of bags and accessories but are usually , or often next to it's sister shop Accessorize which sells a much bigger range of accessories.
Best of all for me - as a curvy size 14 - their stuff fits me! Even dresses which i usually struggle with, i have managed to find a few dresses in there that fit me perfectly with no alterations! Considering the trouble i normally have with dresses it's quite an achievement! I also love the fact that I know i am a definate size 14 in there and that pretty much anything i pick up in that size will be my size. In other shops, even in M&S for example i can need anything from a 12 to a 16 depending on the actual item, so its nice to find a shop where the sizing seems to be done properly!
