Advantages: Well-stocked large range of products, reasonable prices & good offers
Disadvantages: None that come to mind, can get quite busy though
Although my nearest Morrisons is ½ hour away, it always seems to be worth the drive as I come back with bags of groceries and still have change in my purse.
Morrisons is the UKs 4th largest supermarket with 375+ stores over the country so there's one in my cities. It's generally an out-of-town supermarket but they've got a search tool on their website (www.morrisons.co.uk) to find your nearest store. Part of what has helped them become such a large supermarket chain was taking over Safeway, and their more recent boost in advertising has helped increase their popularity.
With the 'credit crunch' and push for better priced groceries, Morrisons often have some great deals in store. Their regular prices overall seem average for a supermarket, with branded products being similar to those in Tesco. They also have a fairly good range of own branded products which offer a varied choice of cheaper alternatives.
As for their overall range, I'd say this is very good. Each area seems to be well stocked and full so you can usually get what it is you want. The different areas offered include:
Fruit & veg
General everyday groceries
Special categories to cater for different dietary needs, such as gluten-free
Bakery with freshly baked goods from bread to tasty treats
Fishmonger / butcher / deli (most stores)
Frozen
Drinks, large range including soft and alcoholic to cater all tastes
House products, eg. Cleaning products
Homeware & electrical - they often offer things like cushions, plates & cutlery and small furnishings, along with small appliances like toasters. Some stores also have a small section for TVs / mobiles etc (often found in a separate section near the magazines)
Pet food & accessories
Health & Beauty
Novelty - a good range of seasonal items for Halloween, Christmas etc. They tend to change other novelty items around, for example in the summer they'll have more childrens outdoor toys and picnic accessories, around school time they'll have a wider range of stationary.
Magazines & tobacco
Cafe - most Morrisons have a cafe which offers well-priced meals, snacks and drinks
I've found the service in Morrisons to generally be quite helpful and swift and have never really had any problems with the store or the staff. The best thing about Morrisons that I've noticed is that they keep all products filled up. It gets stressy, especially when it's busy in supermarkets, when you come to each product you want only to find the shelf empty or not labelled properly. So this is quite a positive review for Morrisons as I don't have anything to complain about. It can get rather busy in there which shows it's popularity but the queues generally go down quite quickly (unless you're in a rush because that's usually my luck to get stuck in a queue for half an hour).
Summary: A recommended supermarket for filling up your cupboards :o)
