Advantages: great offers
Disadvantages: would prefer the fresh pies to be hot
Morrison's in one of the top four supermarkets that has expanded in the last few years especially when the bought out Safeway.
Opening times vary from store to store but as far as I am aware none of these are 24 hour stores. My local store opens at 8 am Monday to Saturday
I shop at Morrison's as it is one of the closest supermarkets and in my opinion one of the best value for money.
I have shopped at a few but will discuss my local supermarket which is one of the smaller stores
The Supermarket is free and has a two hour parking limit. While the parent and baby spaces are close to the building they are not the first spaces you come to so you can often get a parking space (don't get me started on lazy people with no kids parking in these spaces).
My first stop is always customer services as unlike other major supermarkets their trolleys don't have child straps attached to the trolley. It is not really a problem collecting one from customer services unless there is a queue and you are hanging around waiting to begin your shopping.
The first isle of the store is called Market Street. There are fruit, vegetables and flowers. Then our favourite part of the store is the salad bar. This in my opinion has the best salad bar of any of the supermarkets. It has the basic, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, coleslaw and potato salad then additional pasta and rice dishes. They often have a limited edition salad such as broccoli and cauliflower they also have bacon and fried onion bits. My favourite is the pasta with prawns and cucumber and my son's is tuna pasta. While very tasty this is so heavily laden with mayonnaise not the healthiest option.
Next is the hot meat counter. The most popular item seems to be chicken which is rotisserie cooked in store. I enjoy the ribs but they are quite expensive. I personally buy the roast pork most often. It is one of the cheaper meats that have the crunchiest crackling.
They had a pie counter with fresh pies but unfortunately these aren't hot. I find it disappointing that despite been advertised as freshly baked they isn't an option for hot pies.
Some of the larger stores have fresh fish monger, butcher and cheese counter but these aren't present in my local store.
Morrison's then is laid out pretty much like any other supermarket with special offers on the end of each aisle.
Morrison does have great promotions they currently run a meal deal offer on a regular basis. This is a set meal such as breakfast bacon, eggs, beans muffins, and orange juice all for 50p each.
They ran a campaign at Christmas where by spending over £40 in one transaction in four out of five weeks to get a £20 shopping voucher to spend on for Christmas shopping.
My local store has a pharmacy which is in appropriately placed at the end of the store which means if you have a prescription you need to remember to take it in at the beginning of the shop so you aren't waiting around.
They always have offers in store, often buy one get one get one free or more recently better than half price.
Morrison's do have there own range of food, like most supermarkets they are three standards, the best, regular and value. I do often buy the value range. Some are better than others. I find the biscuits and crisps to be fantastic value. They do have a kid's range which is small but my sons does enjoy these especially the fish pie.
At the end of the checkout there is a café. They have a wide choice of meals although my favourite is fish chips and peas. This is not on a hot plate but delivered to your table. They do kids meals that have a choice of drinks and fruit bag which I usually end up taking home, they do Sunday dinners but I have never been impressed with this. They do have some delicious looking cakes.
I personally enjoy shopping at Morrison's I think that as I often purchase buy one get one free or stock up on non perishables when they are on offer it works out one of the cheaper supermarkets .
Morrison's do not have loyalty card points in store but they do have loyalty card in the petrol station which with 5,000 points you get a £5 voucher to spend in store.
They do have a mother and baby club but I have only had a couple of vouchers but it seems to be used more as a postal address to let you know when they have baby items on offer.
I personally enjoy shopping at Morrison's I think that as I often purchase buy one get one free or stock up on non perishables when they are on offer it works out one of the cheaper supermarkets.
