Advantages: Nice big, clean shops

Disadvantages: Far too expensive!

It would seem to me that after god knows how long as a top high street store, Mothercare are doing their very best to eliminate themselves from people thoughts when it comes to shopping for babies or children.

The reason I say this is purely and simply their prices, Mothercare have always been more expensive than most other outlets of the same standing but they are now so much more expensive than the ever growing opposition it seems only a matter of time before they will become obsolete.

The stock they sell apart from their own make of goods is exactly the same stock as people like Toys R us and other retailers are selling only Mothercare charge much more for it.

Recent examples of this for me came when I went shopping with my friend and her heavily pregnant daughter, they were looking for a travel system and a second stage car seat for when the first stage car seat that comes with the travel system was no longer any use.

They looked at a Graco travel system which was £295 in Mothercare but they bought the exact same system from Toys R us for £249.

They also looked at a car seat in Mothercare which I forget the make of but it was priced at £149.99 yet they bought the exact same seat from Halfords for £99.99 and what's more Halfords have offered to fit it free when she needs it as long as she keeps her receipt as proof that she purchased it there.

On top of this there was also the difference in prices on things like bottles, baby baths and many other products that were all much more expensive in Mothercare than they were anywhere else.

Why would anyone choose to spend more money on the exact same product, I understand paying more for better items but paying more for the exact same item makes no sense to me!
