Mothercare- do they care?
Member Name: JoJoC
Advantages: Qualified bra fitters, great selection of goods, well laid out
Disadvantages: A bit pricey at times, service from a small number of staff (on my visits) was poor
At 20 weeks pregnant, the time had come for me to get some maternity bras to make daily life a bit more comfortable. Having visited Mothercare a few times recently, I was aware of their maternity bra measuring and fitting service due to the POS advertising around the store and online, so thought I'd give it a go.
The store itself is one that I enjoy browsing in- it seems to have everything that you could possible need from baby clothes, maternity clothes and all manner of new-baby-essential equipment through to toys, prams, nursery furniture and much more. It's almost like a superstore of everything that you might need.
It's well laid out, spacious and everything is easy to find so on paper, this place is great. It is, however, slightly on the pricey side, which although doesn't deter me from visiting, does make me question whether I should buy something or just try to get it online/ elsewhere.
When I went to get measured, the sales assistant was perfectly pleasant, measured me, got a few bras to try on and I was happy with the service. They only had the one colour in stock so I bought the one that they had and got them to order the one that they didn't have in stock. All in all, although a bit of a lengthy and time consuming process, it all went smoothly.
A week later when I went back in to collect my purchase (which I'd received a text to say had arrived), they had sent the wrong size! I had to go back up to the store, explain the problem and stand for another 15 minutes while they re-ordered. When I went back up a second time to collect the (now correct) order, they serving assistant tried to give me someone else's order which had their very different name plastered all over it and looked at me blankly when I tried to explain that it wasn't mine. I got what I was looking for eventually.
Overall, it's a shame that the latter part of my experience was so poor but it won't stop me from shopping there. The price is a slight issue but they tend to have good sales and special offers on (for example the recent 3 for 2 offer in which I got a bargain on stocking up on nappies).
It's worth a visit, particularly if you're near one of their larger stores, as it does seem to cater for everyone, when they are able to cater properly.
Summary: Worth a visit as a one-stop baby and child shop, even just for ideas and inspiration
