Music Shops in general

Newest Review: ... Nowadays the first store the majority think of is HMV, and rightly so. But why? Well, generally speaking HMV has the biggest and most in-depth stores. From music CDs, it also includes DVDs, video game and various accessories. These are found in set locations across the store. But the music is often broken down by genres and then alphabetically. Rock & Pop, Jazz, Metal, Classical etc. etc. it's all there. There tends to be offers such as two albums for £10, or albums from as little as £3...some are years old and haven't aged well to be kind to them, others can be gems such as Best Of albums by great bands - something which is especial... more

Music shops in general? An odd subject matter it has to be said...one that's certainly not been written in on DooYoo for a number of years. So here you have it - what's the pro's and con's of music shops? Well firstly this is for 'offline' shopping - something people find more and more strange nowadays as more of us shop online, especially for something such as music which doesn't require 'trying on' and many will use the Internet to hear the music beforehand. Surely then, the days of music shops in our high streets are numbered. Look at the way Zavvi went. Formerly Virgin Megastores in lasted little more than several months after it's rename until it went ...  Read the complete review

Am I the only one to have a problem with music categories?? Well I’m probably not but I’m going to give you my take on it anyway. I was recently listening to the radio and Nitin Sawney was talking about how in most music shops he visits he is in the world music section. This is from an artist who was a Mercury Music nominee, he has sold several hundred thousand albums and he is marginalized in the country he was born in (England) because his parents are from India. Whilst I accept there are a lot of Indian influences in his music, the style is quite heavily western dance. Would they think it was traditional Indian music in Calcutta?? Don’t be ...  Read the complete review

I couldn't agree more with Whizzer & Chip if I tried ,I too visited V.Shop this week, what a rip-off!The general cost of their chart CD's-£14.99!! Do yourself a favour shop at Woolworths,WHSmith or even your local supermarket, anywhere except here. O.K, there is a down side at these stores. Standing in the queue at Woolies you may be forced to stand next to a over-excited 7yr old, buying the latest Hearsay or Steps single(but a short sharp dig usually calms them down and does the trick, mother not looking of course). Even at your local supermarket you may be forced to cringe with embarrassment when you put your CD on the conveyer belt with your frozen leg of ...  Read the complete review

Virgin (Our Price, Megastores and V shop), HMV, MVC, Andy's Records, Tower Records etc. ALL OVER PRICED AND OVER HYPED!!!. I personally and most of my friends no longer shop on the high street for music in any format. The prices are sky high, The customer service is usually awful if there is any at all. For example at my last visit into a mainstream high street store (I was with my brother) we were looking for a particular record on CD. The item in question is not that obscure, but the obnoxious assistant could not offer any help, they did not look in the stock room to see if they had any more, they could offer no advice on when the next delivery was due, neither ...  Read the complete review

Have you ever heared of a chain of shops called Music Zone? Because I know that they don't have shops everywhere, but they really are worth checking out if you haven't yet done so! They have CD's, Videos, and DVD's at more reasonable prices, than HMV, Virgin,Our Price ect...and on top of that, they have loads of sales throughout the year, eg, I bought the Metallica video 'Cunning stunts' in HMV, it cost me £18, but being a huge Metallica fan, I was more concerned about getting it home and watching it than the price! But, my friend got it for £5!!!!!! I wasn't so happy then lol!!! Mind yuo, my fiance got it on DVD, and wow! You ...  Read the complete review
