Music Shops - Tips & Comparison

Newest Review: ... was it both) were offering two CDs for £22 or five for £50, which to be honest is utter rubbish. Most people don't have spare fifty quids to chuck around and the CDs on offer are usually old. Having said that, HMV is d oing a good deal right now, with albums starting at £2.99. i managed to get my grubby mitts on the Cosmic Rough Riders CD for £3.99, Mezzanine by Massive Attack and Vertigo by Groove Armada (because my dog ate the old copies) for £4.99. Most of the CDs on offer are of course, older, but there's lots of quality stuff on offer that your l... more

You would imagine going to buy the new CD from your favourite artist would be a fairly simple procedure. But do you head for your local independant store, for one of the big chains or straight to your computer? Here's some of my thoughts on the different ways to get your mitts on the latest by Britney/Oasis/Slipknot (God-my god, that is, forbid!). The Big Chains-AKA HMV and Virgin. I am confused as to why these places get so many thousands of customers a day. Why would anyone in their right mind buy a CD for up to £15.99 when they could buy it at Fopp for ten or online for about £8.99? Fair enough, the big chains have the conveniance aspect. ...  Read the complete review

This opinion is going to be totally different to any other opinion I have done before because I have decided to opt for a somewhat interesting style. This opinion will be talking about the battle between Our Price and HMV but in a role-play style format. This is a very adventurous way to write an opinion and I hope that it works successfully so with that said let’s go to ringside! Voice Over – “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls at this time it is my pleasure to welcome you to this pay per view between Our Price and HMV. This match is for the best music shop heavyweight championship” **HMV Music hits** Voice Over ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Music Shops - Tips & Comparison: Music...what music?! (486 words)

I listen to a lot of alternative music, and often I find it practically impossible to find specific albums, despite the abundance of music shops in my town, Guildford. I therefore propose the following route for people looking for the cheapest CD around: First call: HMV. It has a good range of artists, often selling quite obscure music, with specific metal and punk sections. Also they have a section on local music, which isn't found at some of the other chain stores. However, I find that HMV is the most expensive of all the high-street shops. They do often have sales, but they never seem to have any CDs that I might want to buy reduced, and also ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Why shop here ? (329 words)

I'm a music collector! I buy CDs,Records and DVDs and have done ever since I can remember (obviously DVDS only in the last couple of years) But the prices are ridiculous on the high street, £12-£15 for a CD album £3-£4 for a CD single £15-£25 for a DVD Even with my Virgin tribe card that I managed to wangle some how, 25% is just not enough off nowadays. (Here's a tip for Tribe card holders, go to our price and pick the CDs you want, then go to the school leaver or trainee to pay. When they ask you how much discount you get tell them 50%, then tell them that you are in a rush, they will then get flustered and give you the full ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Music Shops - Tips & Comparison: Great choice, but who is the best? (347 words)

There are many good music shops on the high street which stock vast amounts of music. The big question though is which one is the best? That is not a straight forward question though as each shop seems to have its advantages and disadvantages. I am going to give a run down of some of the main High Street Music shops. The Virgin Megastore is one of the main music shops that can be found on the High Street. It has a good selection of items and usually has good sales as well. They stock lots of different types of music and also have import items. My main problem with Virgin is that their prices are too expensive. This doesnt seem to put people off though. ...  Read the complete review
