Advantages: Sell brand names cheaper than other shops.

Disadvantages: Un tidy stores and un-friendly staff.

In Pontefract, where I live we have a Netto store and I used to shop there every couple of weeks but just recently I have not been as much as I don't think it is as cheap as it once was.

When I think of discount supermarkets there are three that spring to mind; Lidl (there isn't one near where I live) Aldi (which i really don't like) and Netto. I think Netto is by far the best discount supermarket. It sells brand names, often has bargains and special offers, and you can pick up items other than food.

The thing I used to like best about Netto is that every week we would get a little Netto catalogue through the post, this was about for or six pages long and would feature all the latest special offers for that particular week. I would always look through this and it would often be the reason why I went in Netto, to get a specific item. However I no longer get this through the post and as a result I haven't been in for a while.

Our Netto Store is a very large shop but at the same time is very over crowded with items. It has no real display and nothing really has a place, things are just put everywhere and anywhere. It is very much left to the shopper to find what they want but I suppose this is the same with most discount stores.

Netto's does sell lots of food but I think it would be impossible to do all your weekly shop here. I wouldn't dream of buying meat from here but other items like milk, beer and cereal are just fine. Tea bags are one thing they always sell cheaper than other stores.

I think what sets Netto's apart from other discount stores is that they sell lots of brand items; Kellogs, Tetleys, Heinz, Warbutons etc.. You can buy the brand but often at a cheaper price. It's items like fruit and vegetables that would prevent me doing all my shopping there, as they are not very good quality.

Netto also sells items like toys, furniture and d.i.y. tools, on occassions they have really good offers but you have to get there quick as they only have very few of each item and they sell out quickly.

One thing I don't like about Netto is the staff, they seem very un-friendly and are always in a rush. You never get given enough time to pack and they certainly don't ask you 'would you like any help with your packing?'. You also have to pay for the carrier bags.

Overall Netto is an ok supermarket, the best of the discount stores but they don't even compete with shops like Tesco and Morrisons. You can grab a bargain though on occassions.

Summary: Not as cheap as it used to be.
