Advantages: a wide range

Disadvantages: averagely priced

New Look is one of the well known fashion chains on the market. It started out in 1969 as a clothing store for women. Since then it has grown to over 200 stores, and they have expanded their range to cater for a wide area of the clothing market.
You will be able to go into most stores and find ranges for teenage girls, women, men, maternity, tall, petite, as well as shoes, bags, accessories and lingerie, and more recently a children's range.
In the smaller stores the ranges may be limited and you may not find the men's range for example or the maternity, but you will more than likely find the rest mentioned above.

I used to be under the impression that New Look catered for younger people, but as I age graciously of course, I find myself still going in there when in town, and I am know to be dragged in by my teenage daughter as well.
I wouldn't have wanted to shop in the same store as my Mum when I was a teenager, so well done to New Look for making it fashionable for two generations.

Walking into a New Look store, you will find the majority of them to be bright, almost to the point of being too bright. There isn't a shortage of ranges on the rails in New Look, but sometimes I find that the stores are messier than they could be. Whether its staff, the sheer busyness of the store, or the influx of clothes everywhere I don't know.

All the stores in my area are laid out in a good order with denim in an area, plus sizes, teenage, men's, lingerie etc all clearly defined.
The changing rooms are generally spacious, but this is an area that shouts out chaos to me each time I visit. The staff don't seem too worried if I just wander in to see my daughter. I do this quite a lot as you can imagine with a teenager trying on lots of clothes.

Prices in New Look used to be a lot cheaper than the likes of Next and Marks and Spencer, but over the years I have found they have crept up to almost be on par with them. A pair of jeans will cost in the region of £20- £35 depending on the style and fit. T-shirts can range from the basic £4 to £15 for designed t-shirts.
I find their 9-15 teenage range to be of good value, and there is a suitable range that a lot of other shops such as Next don't cater for when you have children that are too big for children's clothes but won't fit in adult sizes either. New Look do this well, ensuring a trendy range for young adults to find their place.

The maternity range is a fairly new range and I caught the tail end of it with my pregnancy. They offer some very garish styles for pregnant ladies, but there are also some simple classic cuts as well. This suited me and I steered clear of all the wild and wacky designs. I didn't need any more attention than my bump was already giving me.

I haven't come across any of the children's ranges in any of my local stores yet but I have heard positive reviews about the ranges through the media, and it won't be long before I'm trying it out.

Overall the quality of the clothes from New Look are under par when you compare them to Next and Marks and Spencer, however they still wash well and last for a decent amount of time. I find they have more minor flaws such as threads hanging etc than the other stores.
When this happens, I simply return to the store and up to date, I have always received a refund or exchange without any major problems.

New Look offer a store card but having had one of these myself in past years I would recommend you avoiding this as with all store cards the interest on them is astronomical, and not worth the extra when you value it up against the clothes you have bought.

Overall I prefer to shop here these days for my daughter, but there is occasion when I am looking for a pair of shoes or new underwear that I will pop into New Look. They compete well at Christmas with all the gifts and offers on their prices.
New Look almost always have a sale rail somewhere in their shop, and its here you can find a bargain if you're prepared to look for it.

New Look certainly holds its own in the market and isn't s shop to be dismissed straight away.

Summary: don't dismiss quickly

I worked there for 4 years when I was at colleage and uni and they gave an excellent 50% discount on already good price clothes! Their quality is much better now even if the prices have gone up slightly as you said. Still good clothes for your money!

I had never tried New Look until I was pregnant, I found the maternity range was fantatsic! I shop in there every so often now.

The new look in Brighton is so bright and confusing with the number of mirrors & amount of neon that I actively avoid it even though I like the clothes. It's a shame really :o(.
