Advantages: Vanity sizing is good for my ego
Disadvantages: The sale this weekend wasn't as good as previous ones
I saw some advertising in the last few days telling me that Next are having one of their famous two day sales this weekend, so I thought I would get on down there today to have a browse.
Next was apparently established in 1982 (in fact it often uses 'Est 82' as a logo!) but I personally became aware of it in the late 1980's, when it used to be quite a trendy place to shop.
In more recent years, I would say it's less trendy, more of an old favourite: it's fashionable but it's not Top Shop! However, I too have become an old favourite, so this suits me down to the ground.
The sizes range from 6 to 22, and they also cater for Tall, Petite or Maternity needs.
Personally, I like the jeans best: I have several pairs from Next, just the black bootcut styles that go with everything, the denim is very good quality and they only cost around £20.00 per pair. Next are really good for different leg lengths, with Short, Regular and Long to choose from in each size.
My favourite thing about Next is that they do seem to have 'vanity sizes' - You know, where the size in the label is actually a size smaller than the actual measurements say it it :) I love this!
The mens and childrens sections are great too, and there is a home department selling bedding, lamps, photo frames and candles etc.
My favourite thing in the childrens section was the cotton lycra tops with little embellished figures on them, such as a ballerina or a fairy.
The sale that I quickly looked into today though, wasn't as good as in previous years, in my opinion: It used to be that people were queuing outside at 5am, you couldn't get a space in the car park all day, and the whole shop would be given over to the sale. Well today I just parked and strolled in, but there was only a small selection on sale, the rest was normally priced, so that was a bit disappointing.
Overall: I will probably always continue to go to Next for myself and my children, the clothes are lovely and well-made, at value for money prices. Some items cost a bit more but there is usually a reason for it, for example if it's a top that is hand beaded, but generally it's great for quality basics.
Summary: Next is a great shop for all shapes, sizes and ages
