No Frills ... every store manager dreams of, especially on opening day. The first nofrills prototype store had swung open its doors in East York, near Toronto. The reaction on the part of shopppers was enthusiastic, to say the least. "The rush never stopped," explained Loblaws manager Robert St. Jean, back in July 1978. "We're really excited about it ... really excited!"

No Frills Sheffield Very cheap, which is ideal if you just want a pack of screws or some bedding plants. Totally central location for us here in Sheffield, which means you can drop in after paying your council tax or something else equally taxing! There are items such as lightbulbs which are cheaper than most places, especially some of the more unusual bulbs and variances of wattage. This would apply to lining paper, most outdoor goods, swing seats and interior fittings such as plugs and lightswitches. Though useful at times I rarely find anything I want in here, the selection is very different to other DIY stores. The pine is the cheap stuff sold off ... Read the complete review

We had a No Frills in Ashford, Kent until is closed to make way for the new Euro Tunnel extension. Over the preceding years we purchased a complete kitchen - still looking good and equal to all other top named makes. A Shower - still going after six years. Door locks, paint, paper, borders, tools, well you name it and we probably got it from No Frills. Just about every product was good value for money. We even purchased a heater from them whilst on holiday for a good £10 less than anywhere else. The Staff were always helpful and delivery was made on time. We miss our No Frills and would dearly love them to return to Ashford/Folkestone area. ... Read the complete review

For anyone who has never visited a No Frills DIY store, a visit is highly recommended. As the name suggests, this store is just that - no frills. What is does offer is a wide range of products found in other DIY stores but at much reduced prices. You can find most products from lighting, wallpaper, paint, garden centre, garden furniture, crockery etc. Virtually anything and everything. I can vouch for the products that I have purchased at No Frills. The garden swing/lounger in particular at under £70 is excellent. No just my opinion but that of neighbours, friends and visitors alike who have tried it out!! Comments ranged from 'where ... Read the complete review

No Frills Diy is part of the Great Mills chain, they operate on very low margins with every expense spared on the stores, displays and packaging. Sadly our local store closed down a couple of years ago but if you pass one stop and have a look. The prices are very good, significantly cheaper than Homebase etc. Our local B&Q only brought in the pricematch promise when No Frills closed down! They regularly change their stock and always have a number of very special offers. End of runs / discontinued stock was also sold, they always had wallpaper at 99p a roll, unbeatable. Don't expect to be pampered in store, there aren't lots ... Read the complete review
