Advantages: Some beautiful dresses for special occasions. Good fit of jeans

Disadvantages: Quite expensive in comparision.

Oasis used to be on most high streets across England. However recently they have had to shut quite a few stores due to the recession. My local one has now shut it's shop but still continues to be in House of Fraser as a concession.

So what has made oasis loose money in these worrying times where other high street stores such as Topshop and Primark have had around 15 to 30 percent rise in sales.

My personal opinion of Oasis is almost like a high street store wanting to be like a boutique. There stores are beautifully decorated, they give you posh carrier bags but there clothes are mass produced.

There clothes tend to be a varied lot. Their jeans are superb. Great fit and available in a number of different colours and styles. They are expensive though. I've paid £35 for a pair of denim shorts in here. Most jeans tend to be around the £40 to £45 mark.

They are also known amongst my friends as doing a gorgeous range of dresses. There are usually very luxurious, made from silk and of course expensive!£90 is not an uncommon price for dresses in here. Yes they are made from nice fabrics but nearly a hundred pounds for a dress that you may see someone else wearing out too? Not for me.

That said in the sales they start off with measly reductions but you can get these £90 dresses for around the 20 mark if you're lucky. I generally hold out for then.

They have quite an upmarket target base and in my opinion play it quite safe with a lot of their designs. You don't find the sequinned leggings or flueresant platforms in here.

Perhaps keeping with their desire to be more like a boutique, I find there size is really quite small. I'm a 10 in most shops but have to buy size 12's from here. There is however a good range of sizes usually available. They do sizes 8 to 16 which in this age could possibly be seen as too small a range. Size 6's and 18's are now quite common sizes.

I've always found staff to be helpfully and their 28 day return policy great with no quibbles.

They also sell shoes, accessories, jewellery, night wear, underwear, and swim wear.

Summary: Have a look

I find them very overpriced. There used to be an outlet store at the McArthur Glen at Livingston I would visit but it's closed now too, so I can't even pick up the occasional bargain there :-(
