Oford Street is THE shopping hotspot in London. All the top high street stores have a flagship here and you're guaranteed their whole ranges with be in their Oxford Street branch. TopShop is probably the busiest and most popular flagship store, with a huge three floor store. Other big names include New Look, Apple and Nike town.
In amoung all these big names are souveneir shops, outlet stores and places to eat.
It's good if you want high street as everthing high street is here, but don't come here if you want independant stores or something a bit different, here it's all about the big names.
It gets busy too, personally I wouldn't go near it on a Saturday, especially this close to Christmas. If you have christmas shopping to do, go now and go mid week, it's only going to get worse!!
As for getting to Oxford Street couldn't be more central. Jump onto the central line and get off at Oxford Circus or Tottenham Court road, or jump on a bus, which go through all the time, from most parts of the city.

Summary: A great shopping destination if you don't mind a bit of chaos!!
