Advantages: Loads of good "cheaper" prices

Disadvantages: Haggling can wear you down.

If you are in, near, or just visiting Glasgow this New Year, then don't miss a trip to Paddy's "flea" Market.

It was founded over a century ago by Irish immigrants - hence the name "Paddys"

It is situated between Clyde Street, beside the river Clyde, and the Bridgegate, referred to locally as The Briggait.

The market consists of a main lane, which has recently lost all of its old cobbled surface - which has been replaced with modern tarmac.

If you progress down the lane you will find many wee inshots under the overhead railway line where all sorts of goods may be purchased.

You can get cheap tobacco, alcohol, jewellery, watches, pirate CD's, vitamins, in date and out of date foodstuffs, computer gear and claes, claes and more claes.

If you can't find what you are looking for- just ask about amongst the 'dealers' and they will usually get it for you tomorrow !

The market is open every day in the year except for Sundays, when the whole place closes down in order to allow the dealers to attend their respective places of worship !

TIP -- Bring a pair of leather gloves with you as you might find some of the goods on offer a wee bit 'warm' to the touch - but, by and large the vendors at Paddys are licensed "honest" traders and a great bunch of folks to haggle with.
