      Popping to Parkgate is perfect.

I live within 15 minutes drive of this shopping centre situated on the outskirts of Rotherham - but that's on a good day! If I want to get into Parkgate Retail World quickly and get parked up near to where I want to be, I know to avoid weekend afternoons when the traffic builds up on the roads surrounding the Centre. However, pop down quite early in the morning or later in the afternoon and you are usually straight in and with free parking surrounded by the shops, you really cannot go wrong.
Many of the big High Street names are there and there is plenty to keep the whole family happy for a few hours. I tend to go into the ladies fashion and beauty stores such as New Look and Boots, while my partner is pleased to get chance to browse the computer and electronic goods in PC World across the road. There is Pets at Home, which now has a dog grooming salon attached and if you need to pick up a few groceries while you're out, there is also a Morrisons.
My downfall at Parkgate has to be the smell of fast food from the kiosks or the restaurants dotted about which usually means an impromptu meal out of some sort into the bargain.
Personally I would like to see more cash points and more toilets - not awful, smelly grubby ones like there used to be but ones which you would actually want to use.
Otherwise, we really like popping over to Parkgate. Whether it's sports clothing or a new sofa that you're after there is plenty to choose from and even if the car park is full, you never get that hustle and bustle of the indoor shopping malls or the town or city centres.

      Not bad... for Rotherham

Living in Sheffield we're quite blessed to have one of the country's best shopping centres on our doorstep in Meadowhall. If the wife or I ever want something our first trip is usually a jaunt to Meadowhall. However, sometimes it's nice to go to different places and Parkgate retail park
in Rotherham is one of those places.

Now, there's no easy way to say this (and I apologise to any Rotherham folk in advance), but Rotherham is a dump. It's a horrible old run-down town whose only redeeming feature is that it's close to Sheffield and a sniff of civilisation.

However, Parkgate is the jewel in Rotherham's dirty plastic crown.

Parkgate is an open-air retail park containing around 40 large shops including TJ Hughes, Next, Argos, Curry's, Matalan, Dorothy Perkins and strangely a big Morrison's. In truth, there's not too much to entice a fashion-conscious gentleman like myself, but it makes a change from being dragged around Meadowhall!!

There'd around 2,000 free car parking spaces although these can get filled quite quickly at busy times such as weekends or the January sales.

If you're after something to eat or drink, you'll find a KFC, Pizza Hut and Subway, but there's nowhere to have a proper sir-down meal - no Frankie & Benny's or TGI Friday's-type places... but in hindsight, it's probably best to be in Rotherham for as short a time as possible, so the lack of restaurants is more of a blessing in disguise!
