Advantages: The revamp
Disadvantages: Quality?
Peacocks has shifted its old image from that of a frumpy cheap store where you could buy cotton tea-shirts on the cheap, to a store where people are actually proud to say, "I'm glad you like it, you'll never guess where it's from..."
The 'new' peacocks has fought to bring catwalk-style to the bottom end of retail price range. With most clothes under twenty pounds, there are a number of items which aim at created that seasons 'look' for less. Top sellers have included the pin-stripe blazer, and blue felt coat with gold brass buttons. In addition to the clothes, and if the price wasn't already reasonable enough, they also give a great 10% discount to students.
Their shoes and boots are generally reasonable, although some boots have not got the proper grip on the soles; one pair I purchased made me slip over at least once every time I wore them. If you want comfortable shoes which aren't too great on the feet for little money, then peacocks shoes are for you. Not only do they have boots, but also keep up with the spring trend for wedges, perfect for any party event involving lawns.
They also have a childrens' section, as well as a men's, although it is possibly for their women's line they are becoming gradually more well known.
One particularly useful accessory that has flown off of the shelves is the new hair extentions that can be clipped into the hair. These are available in brown, black and blonde, and can be cut to fit in with layers; at £3.50 they are a steal. However, the clips often need to be sewn back on to the hair piece, and after a few wears it loses its authentic silky softness and frizzes.
Stores vary from region to region, and so it is impossible to comment on the general feel of every store, obvious perhaps. However, as the company continues to reinvest in its stores in the main city centres in the southwest and southeast, there has been some marked improvements in general decor. As every store has to fit around different leaseholds, the practicalities vary. However, changing rooms are not always of sufficient size to cope with the Saturday traffic, and the staff are not always present to deal with queeries. Depending on what time you go, queues can be long, but as I have already stated, and feel compelled to reiterate, each store varies, and during this stage of reinvestment it would be inaccurate for me to comment on the general in-store appearance of the chain as a whole. However, the vey fact that peacocks has decided to take this economically risky step, at a time when consumerism is due to take a downturn, is a very brave move.
I shop in peacocks, and will continue to do so, so long as it provides good clothes, for low prices.
Summary: Good clothes, at low prices

- 31/03/08 The women's range seems good but they have very little for men. |
