Advantages: Good variety
Disadvantages: The staff don't know what they're talking about
Up until about two weeks ago I would of said that they were a really good company that sell you a brilliant range of pet food for a lot of animals. And also sell small animals from fish to rabbits and chinchillas, thats where the problem lies. I have heard from many people that the staff are not trained properly and I brushed it off, I wish I listened now......
I went into my local shop to buy some tropical fish for my tank. I found 2 fish that I really liked, I read that they were community fish that could be put in my tank with my other tropical fish. So I decided to buy a blue and a red fish - siamese fighting fish more to the point. We asked the staff if you can have two in the same tank, which they assured us that you could, so they put them in the same bag for us to take home. Once back home and in the tank I noticed they started fighting with each other - Panic!! So I checked online and in actual fact you can't have two in the same tank. We managed to separate them but they had obviously attacked each other too badly in the bag and both died!! I would be a bit more compassionate if it was a silly error like wrong food etc. but really this was a really serious mistake
So now my view on Pets at Home is the staff really don't know what they are doing. They don't know one fish from the next and this is actually quite unsettling knowing that you can't even trust the staff for assurance.
They do have a good variety of pet food though and even though they are a bit more expensive than supermarkets they do have great deals. They also have a lot of speciality foods where you can't get elsewhere which is handy if you have fussy pets like I do. You can get everything in the same store.
As well as pets and pet food you also get pet beds and pet toys, great selection but quite over-priced compared to elsewhere. On top of all this you can get flea drops and worming tablets which saves you having to go to the Vets.
It's a shame their staff aren't trained properl as this could potentially be a brilliant shop but unfortunately I have lost all faith in the store now.
Summary: Great to be able to get everything you need in one store, ashame about the staff

- 30/09/09 And don't jump to conclusions about our training. We have to do Step 1, which is basic animal care, illnesses, food etc. This take three months, and then we've got to do step 2, which is more in depth and takes a further six months, before we're even ALLOWED to sell animals. |

- 30/09/09 Well obviously you've visited a store where the staff weren't trained properly; we're not all the same. All of our staff know exactly what fish can go with what. |

- 26/03/09 The staff really dont know what they're talking about, they have no idea. We've had that too but with the rodents and mammals. They need to be fully trained, but instead they're just people who wanted the job, a little training and thats it. |
