Advantages: Many Pet Accessories
Disadvantages: Not many pets
'Pets at Home' is a franchise of large pet stores which have gradually increased in number across the UK over the past decade. The stores are generally found in business parks, as is the case with my local branch, which is housed in a large warehouse style building.
The shop sells a wide variety of pet foods, toys, cages, fish tanks and other accessories. In terms of the actual pets which are for sale, the selection is quite limited, but smaller animals - e.g Hamsters, Gerbils, Rabbits, Rats, Guinea Pigs and fish, are common. I've noticed a selection of slightly strange products in the shop, for example glittery headbands and feather boa's for cats to wear - which is quite unusual!
Many Pets at Home stores have an 'adoption centre' which allows suitable customers to own pets which have recently been left without an owner :(
In my personal experience, the staff at Pets at Home have always been helpful and friendly - although having said that, I have only speak for the customer service in the one shop I have visited, and can't speak for the staff in the rest of the UK's stores.
Price-wise, I have found some items in Pets at Home to be cheaper than the national average, and some items to be dearer. However, what the shop is good for, is the frequent offers on pet food - which come in the form of 3 for 2, or buy one get one free deals.
In conclusion, Pets at Home has a good variety of pet accessories and food, yet the store itself makes for a pretty unspectacular shopping experience. This is probably due to the unimaginative layout of the shop. Of course, it's always nice to see a few fluffy critters when you're shopping, and this is Pets at Home's redeeming feature.
