Advantages: Helpful staff, good shop, and the dog can come in too

Disadvantages: often quite expensive

'Pets at Home' is a franchise of large pet stores which have gradually increased in number across the UK over the past decade. You can generally find them at mass retail parks just outside a lot of city centres.

The shop sells a wide variety of pet foods, toys, cages suitable for hamsters, gerbils and rats, even the odd outfit for the cat. As well as all the accessories you might need for cats and dogs like harnesses or leads and muzzles.
They also sell pets, as any normal pet shop would - rats, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish, however the store here doesn't seem to have very many pets for sale.
Many Pets at Home stores have an 'adoption centre' where pets without owners can be rehomed with someone new - the store here often has information about cats and dogs at the local stray home that are available for adoption.

In my personal experience, the staff at Pets at Home have always been helpful and friendly and more than happy to help you with the huge sacks of dog food you're struggling with.

On prices I think that Pets at Home can be quite expensive, but this does depend on what you are buying. Certainly for dog chews I find they can be rather expensive considering the rate the dog goes through them, but I think it is only fair to mention that they often have special deals or '3 for 2' on many items in store and the store here does have a regular reduced section of seasonal stock and many toys are often reduced (thankfully)

My main reason for liking this store is that you can take the dog in with you - not a big thing to a lot of people but when you're buying a harness for the dog it's kinda hard to get the size right without trying it on the dog first! It's almost like taking a child into a clothes shop, you need to be able to see how something fits, and Hamish certainly loves being able to pick his own new toy!

Summary: Wonderdog gets to shop too!

I love taking Molly my little dog in there for a look round. I agree it can be expensive. She eats Cesar in tins and they are 6p each more than Waitrose!
