Advantages: Convinient for pet stuff.
Disadvantages: Rude staff who have no idea of how to tell the time. Rubbish customer service and can be expensive.
Having a puppy who is rather hairy and seems to be leaving that hair deposited every where at the moment, the wife and myself felt we had to do something to stop or at least stem this hair flow. A quick google of our dog's breed revealed he has 2 different coats of fur. One of these coats was coming out in clumps, rather than single hairs.
It was a Saturday evening and we decided a trip to our local Pets at Home (Canterbury) and peruse the grooming products to find a solution. We had decided on some form of brush, but wasn;t sure which, so needed to have a look and read before purchase.
We arrived at the store at 5:50pm, thinking that the store was open until 8pm. This was not the case, as looking at the opening hours and the fact all trolleys were inside the store, we discovered the store actually closed at 6pm. Not great, but we still had 10 minutes to find the right product for us. However, when we walked in, we were told very matter of factly that they close in 3 minutes. Somehow, it had taken us 7 minutes to walk the 10 metres from our car to the store. No matter, the bit we needed was right in front of us and right by the till.
After looking at all the brushes they have and picking up 2 different one, a member of staff walked past is and informed us the store was now closed. It was done with the same level of rudeness the first member of staff spoke to us with. It was done in such a way, that we just thought to ourselves, do we really want to rush ourselves now for these people. Not being overly vindictive, we made our way to the checkout with both brushes.
This member of staff was very nice. The only thing that irked me about her was when she asked if there was anything else we required in the store. A quick reply of does it really matter as your now closed put paid to that idea. It seemed a very odd thing to ask when you are now closed and your colleagues are running around telling everyone in the store your closed.
So we left and didn't even get a thank you or good bye from the staff member opening the door for us. Once outside, we looked at the receipt and the time was 5:59pm. Now, I don;t like to be petty, but after being told we had 3 minutes, when we had 10 and then being told they were closed, when we managed to get our items and leave before the time of closing just really annoyed me.
This then leads me to the last point for Pets at Home. I don't know if you have ever completed a review of a shop, but at the top of the page, before you write anything, Dooyoo state that the stores may read your review and chose to get in contact with you to discuss it further. this would suit me absolutely fine.
After our visit, I emailed Pets at Home using the contact us bit on their website. After completing my complaint and sending it, they very kindly tell you they will be in contact with you within 48 hours. That was 8 days ago now and I haven't heard a thing.
So Pets at Home, if you do read this, why not get i contact so we can discuss how pants your Canterbury branch is.
I have a conspiracy that Pets at Home do read these reviews. I say this as within 24 hours of writing this review, I have an email from them offering me vouchers, apologising for the service received and apologising for the delay in contacting me. Result people.
Summary: Find a local idependant pet shop instead.

- 30/09/09 It seems to me that some of our other stores are full of rude staff members/ill pets/other problems etc. Obviously I can only speak for my own store, but as far as I'm concerned, all of our staff members are polite and will do anything to help you. Northern Stores = better than southern stores :D |

- 22/09/09 amazing how complaining publicly gets better results than doing it privately |
