This summer, my husband and I took the next big step after kids and marriage.....we bought a puppy! Obviously, we wanted to be well prepared for when the time came to bring the little fella home.
Over the last few months or so, I hadnt heard very many positive reviews for Pets At Home, and even though there was a store 5 minutes from home,I decided to go elsewhere for everything we needed for his homecoming. I ended up spending almost as much on supplies as we paid for the puppy!!

The next time we needed supplies, I decided to judge for myself, and headed for Pets At Home. My local store is in Newmarket, so thats where my review is at!

I was very pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the store. It was completely immaculate, shiny clean floors, well stocked and neatly stacked shelves, attractive displays, and more importantly, all the animal pens, cages and tanks where very clean and it is clear the animals are well cared for.
I was greeted immediatly by the staff at the desk as I walked in, and asked if I needed any help. I replied that for now I was just browsing, and told to just ask if I needed help.

Just behind the counter, is where the rodents and small animals were. In two big, open topped hutches were the rabbits. The hutches were clean, and there were plenty of supplies to keep the rabbits fed, watered and busy! Round the sides and behind the rabbit hutches, were the smaller animals, such as hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs etc. Again, all the cages were very clean, the animals looked well looked after, and I was very impressed.

All the supplies are split, so its easy to find what you are looking for. There is a section for dogs, cats, birds, fish and such...
Pets At Home had a brilliant stock of almost everything I could possibly imagine for our puppy. There is a wide variety of toys, foods, beds, collars and leads,plus much, much, more.

I needed to purchase worming and flea treatments. These are all locked away, and to get them you need to ask a qualified member of staff. To purchase what I required, I had to write a few details down in their record books and sign for them, which is encouraging as this way the treatments are sold responsibily.

When our puppy was ready to start going for walks, I sked and was told I was able to take him into the store. A staff member helped me to fit him for the collar and was extremely helpful as by myselfI wouldnt have known which was the correct size. She then also helped me to pick out the best lead for us.

I must admit, that my favourite part of shopping at Pets At Home, is the doggy pick n mix! They have around 8 containers with different doggy treats, which you can pick and mix. Compared to the prices of real sweetie pick n mixes, this one is very cheap!

On the whole, I cannot complain about Pets At Homes prices. They are so cheap compared to other pet stores. I also love their sales, we picked up an amazing bargain dog bed a month or so ago and I was very impressed!

At the moment, they have lots of Christmas pet treats around the store, and I simply cannot wait to go doggy Christmas shopping!

In general, I wish my first stop for dog supplies had been Pets At Home. Not only would I have spent less overall, I would have got their excellent service, which really is top notch!
