Portobello Road & Market

Get there early! - Advantages: Some great value, Friendly if you know them, All sorts of stuff - Disadvantages: Some terrible value, Have to be there by six, Zillions of tourists

Since I live only minutes away from Portobello, if I don't write an opinion about it who will?! The nearest bus stop and tube stations to the place are at Ladbroke Grove, or even Westbourne Park (where I live, but the Grove's nearer). Maybe it's because I've lived here all my life that I've got a slightly greyed-out view of the place, but Portobello isn't really that great in honesty. Portobello Market is a vibrant, interesting market, selling a wide variety of things. It's not as large or lively as Camden Market, but it's certainly worth looking at. It is best on a Saturday when all the stall holders come out in force (much smaller, far less interesting fruit & veg markets are held there in the week.) At the weekend there are a very large selection of clothing stalls near Ladbroke Grove under the Westway, selling a wide variety of very interesting, unusual and alternative clothes as well as some other more usual stuff.
