Since I live only minutes away from Portobello, if I don't write an opinion about it who will?! The nearest bus stop and tube stations to the place are at Ladbroke Grove, or even Westbourne Park (where I live, but the Grove's nearer). Maybe it's because I've lived here all my life that I've got a slightly greyed-out view of the place, but Portobello isn't really that great in honesty. Sure it's a world famous tourist attraction, and it is quite flavourful, but at the end of the day, atleast for the locals; it's just another road and market that has a famous moniker, but for you non-locallers sakes, here's the low-down from a ...

Portobello Market is a vibrant, interesting market, selling a wide variety of things. It's not as large or lively as Camden Market, but it's certainly worth looking at. It is best on a Saturday when all the stall holders come out in force (much smaller, far less interesting fruit & veg markets are held there in the week.) At the weekend there are a very large selection of clothing stalls near Ladbroke Grove under the Westway, selling a wide variety of very interesting, unusual and alternative clothes as well as some other more usual stuff. If you want something unusual to wear, then this is the place to come! Some of the clothing is new and some ...
