Advantages: Branded bargains

Disadvantages: Dodgy stuff you have never heard of!

This is a recently discovered gem of a store for me...and not because of the credit crunch, but because it is on the way to my gym.

The first time I really noticed it I was taken aback by the mix of people going in and out of the store. There was and is a complete social mix of people using Poundland to do their shopping. When I say shopping...it is clearly not a place you can get everything. It is also a place with a huge amount of junk in it!

If you are looking to buy branded goods of good quality, particularly hair and dental, it must be said that it is good value.

I tend to visit most days. I buy stuff for our packed lunches for work (capri suns, crisps, chocolate bars) cat food (2 for £1) toilet rolls, cleaning stuff, fizzy drink, treats, heinz beans, Princes tinned fish...all at remarkable value.

I have had also the time recently to compare prices between Poundland and Tesco. I was surprised to note that just about every branded item in poundland was the same price or lower in Tescos.

I also compared two bottles of bleach in Poundland (obviously a £1) with a bottle of market value bleach and market value toilet cleaner from tescos, which came in at 10p cheaper.

You do have to shop around for the bargains and stores are so competative at the moment that if you have the time to look around you can reaaly find some great bargains. Poundland is one of the fastest expanding stores in the UK and it is easy to see why. they even give you a free carrier bag which believe it or not is a popular thing!

Once you get over the snobbery and realise that most of the stuff on sale is just waht you would buy in Waitrose.... you realise that you are onto a great thing!
