Advantages: Some reall bargains

Disadvantages: Queues, junk and people

As a family we often go into the centre of town each week mainly to get a big bag of Pic N Mix each. We always end up popping into Poundland to see if they have any bargains. I'm not going to patronnise anyone by explaining what sort of shop it is............O.K you pushed me into..........it's a shop where everything is pound! You can find just about anything and everything in there but the stock does change regularly so it's worth popping in every so often to see what bargains you can pick up. They sell everything from toiletries to toys and sweets (my personal favourite!) to car accessories. You name it, it's probably there somewhere. There are you happy now?

The pound shop is great if you've got a little time on your hand. I usually haven't so end up getting a little stressed out. For a start the shop is usually rammed packed with people trying to get a bargain and our's isn't very big so I spend ages just stood still shouting 'Excuse me please' to a deaf woman who can't hear a word I'm saying. It doesn't help that I have a double buggy to push through aisles that are smaller than my wrist either.

Another thing that I find really annoying about the shop is that everything is everywhere. It's a bit like a junk shop and because there aren't many staff on the shop floor you can't ask anyone where something is and no one is tidying up after the customers so it gets in a right state. You end up having to trawl through tonnes of stuff so if you want to be and out within minutes then you have no chance.

The next thing you will notice is the fact that the queues are longer than my hubbys............legs (ohhhhhh you dirty minded people!). There are often quite a few people on the checkouts and it doesn't take too long because they haven't got much complicated adding up to do......ten items = five pounds.........oh no....ten pounds! I always think 'Oh I can't be bothered to wait' but if I do then I'm usually out the door pretty quickly so don't let it put you off.

Lastly I have noticed that I can pick up most of the things at Asda for a lot less. I find it weird that we kind of get tricked into thinking that a pound is really cheap and everything is a pound. I sometimes think that a pound is less than 79p and say 'Oh look this bottle of lubrication is only a pound, how cheap is that?' but if I actually think about it I can get two for 50p at Asda. Weird that! Anyway don't be fooled thinking it's really cheap because you can probably find some of it elsewhere.

On a positive side, I have found some real bargains in there like some baby stuff that was twice the price at other places so they do come along every so often. The sweets are usually pretty good too.

Summary: A hit or miss

Sounds like your local one is terrible - the worst problem with the ones I've been to (other than the prices) is the queues.
