Advantages: Cheap,fast stock turnover
Disadvantages: Busy, fast stock turnover, limited clothes for men and boys
Primark is great if you are a woman. It sells fashionable clothes at a much cheaper price than most of the high street in a wide range of sizes. TThis means you can get fashionable t-shirt tops for £2, jumpers for £4, skirts for £8, cardigans for £6, packets of tights for £2.50 - the list is endless.
However being cheap means that the stock turnover of the store is really high. Therefore if you go into a Primark store and hesistate over buying an item of clothing it probably will be out of stock 3 days later.
Primark has recently been voted the most unethical shop on the high street in survey of shop ethics by Ethical Consumer magazine. However I have inside information that informs me that Primark uses the same suppliers as the retailers that came second and third, one of whom is a well established name who has sales problems. This is why in the summer they had a problem with a skirt they sold that was the same as another major high street store. (Primark was selling the skirt for £10 the other store was selling the skirt for £40)
I have been shopping in Primark with my two nephews aged 10 and 13. They have informed me that Primark is not good for them and that's not fair. (I have been two 2 different Primark stores with them, one of which is a large store.) The reason for their complaint is that Primark whilst have a selection of mens clothing is mainly aimed at women. The mens clothing section in their eyes consists of boring socks and underwear with not enough choice in the jumpers and t-shirt department. This means that they could easily end up wearing the same clothes as their friends.
Some people moan about the quality of the shop's products but I have discovered that in the past two years some other retailers clothing quality has gone down hill as they try and decrease prices to attract customers. I personally have found no difference in quality in their throws or towels then other high street retailers and lots of their tops are the same quality. My main problems have been with the quality of their skirts and trousers as I find these strink in the wash even if the wash is 30 degrees, and therefore I tend not to buy these items from these shops. The quality of their tights I found is actually better than a lot well known shops as they don't get holes in the feet as quickly.
One of the problems of Primark stores is that they are extremely busy. I went to a large Primark store a week after it opened in the summer and was given water in the changing room queue due to having to queue for 40 minutes in the heat to try clothes on. I then had to queue for another 40 minutes to pay for my goods. This was the last time that I went that particular store on a weekend in the afternoon. I now try and ensure that I shop at Primark either on a weekend morning as soon as the store opens, on a weekday or in an established store.
Summary-
Cheap fashionable clothing with a good selection if you are a woman. Not so good if you are a bloke.
