Advantages: Shoes, Childrenswear
Disadvantages: Prices, Not on trend
Primark has recently been the centre of massive debate about child labour and throw away fashion. I shall not be fooled by their recent inflamation of prices to pursuade us to believe the workers are being paid more. I must say because of how low the prices were before , its now a shock that something that would have been £4 is now £8..
Work ethnics aside, i must say Primark used to be amazing for bargains which were in fashion. The past year i have felt Primark has not been on trend and the prices put me off what used to be a cheap alternative to other shops. You used to be able to go into Dorothy Perkins, and New Look and find identical belts for around £10 or so..and then go to primark and find a replica for £2. This does not happen anymore.
What i do reccomend though, is that you go there for shoes! The shoes are on trend and on average about £10 - £15 for shoes that would otherwise cost around £35+ from anywhere else.
PLEASE do not waste your money on the underwear. I've had bras from there which haven't even lasted one wash. The padding goes "lumpy" and its un-wearable.
Bags and belts are good but very seasonal meaning they will end up dated and in the bin. Another thing is that the metal accents they use on the shoes, bags and belts is almost always brassy. That ruins the look because i do not wear brassy jewellery to match and i just wish they would use either a silver colour or gold colour!
The childrens clothes at Primark, i can see the benefits of buying. Children grow so fast and the clothes are very cheap so you would not end up spending unnecessary money whilst your child grows.
I personally feel that the fun has gone out of Primark.I no longer get excited about seeing a Primark store, nor do i go out of my way to go to one.
Summary: Fantastic for childrenswear, not so great for adults

- 12/09/08 I think the quality is no worse than any discount store. It is certainly on a par with Matalan and Peacocks. Primark are no more or less guilty of child labour crimes than Asda and Tesco. |

- 12/09/08 I hope that the quality improves with the rising prices. Some Primark stuff is as if a house has been built out of match sticks! |
